The concept is that child singers don't do well in BGT. But I've checked them all out and, for the most part, they weren't much good.

There were a couple of excellent ones in the early series who did very well and were only beaten by someone exceptional, the likes of which we don't have this year.

Often the child can't connect with the lyrics. That's still true with Beau but it's not so much of an issue in musical theatre songs and hardly noticeable.

I thought she excellent, though I wasn't that keen on her look

What signs that she's TCO are you talking about? other than the GB and 1st audition slot

I find Jasmine as a person far more likeable
Report Henry VIII May 24, 2016 4:42 PM BST
GB and 1st audition slot is good enough. But also that she's brilliant, British, and Cowell has always wanted a child winner. One who has potential and will be an ambassador for BGT for many years.

I think her look is OK, still an innocent child who would be delighted at winning.

She's also very sweet in interview, not at all the brash stage school type.

my first impressions of beau were not so positive, while she is talented i found her unlikable the moment she opened her mouth to sing.

She was trying too hard, overdoing the emotion?

I think I know what you mean but I think she will be mainly loved by the average BGT audience member, who is less analytical than us.

She comes across well in this interview:

Annoying stage school kid. I prefer Jasmine. Seems far more DtE. Ofc it doesn't mean she won't trade lower with help from TPTB
Report timbuctooth May 24, 2016 8:05 PM BST
Henry`s right, she`s a far better singer than the children we usually see on this. I think she still exudes innocence, not fabricated stage schooly at all, as we can clearly see from the moment she was Golden Buzzered; a face of pure delight. Forget comparisons with Jasmine,as she can`t sing. Previously accepted assumptions are there to be broken, so she`s a definite runner.

Number of judges giving standing ovation for Richard’s audition = 0
Number of judges giving standing ovation for Beau’s audition = 4

Number of judges giving standing ovation for Richard’s SF = this time they all stood up to shake his hand as they were right next to him but it was muted applause.
Number of judges giving standing ovation for Beau’s SF = we shall see tomorrow.

Bit like Faryl

I’ve just worked out what you mean - Faryl Smith from 2008. She was a very different case but she may be the reason for Beau’s artificially high price.

That final was unusual for having two 12 year old sopranos singing classical songs, and close together in the RO, thus splitting their votes. She said that she underperformed due to terror she had because just before she performed she spilt a glass of water down her front and had to have it quickly dried with hair dryers.

She was also very rough and ready, nothing wrong with that but it meant her spoken voice was incongruous with her singing voice.

There was no official BGT YT channel in 2008 but the biggest clip I found of Faryl was her audition with just 350,000 views. Her competitors that year have clips with many millions of views. And Beau has 16 million, so is different gravy to Faryl.

Report five leaves left May 25, 2016 10:14 AM BST
I'm sure she had far more YT views of her audition than 350K. It went down a storm and why she went into the final as favourite. What you call 'rough and ready', I'd call far more down to earth and relatable, than the annoyingly precocious Beau.

I'd agree she underperformed in the final and the choir boy (again far more relatable than Beau) really upped his game to take 3rd.
Faryl may have taken 3rd with a better performance but was never winning
Report Henry VIII May 25, 2016 10:32 AM BST
If there was another strong 12 year old this year singing in the same style as Beau she wouldn't win either.

A few weeks is actually 7 weeks and it's been linked by various websites. Also Yt is vastly more popular now that it was just a few years ago with people watching on smart phones and the ability to access YT on normal tvs.

Yes, we'll know more tonight. And TCO is less important in BGT. They don't always get pimp if it isn't best for the show.

I'd say fwiw though she is TCO. Golden buzzer and week 1. She has also had a clip of her at the beginning of every audition week after her week 1 (just a second in week 5) and in the montages her clip is often the predominant one. Also her clips have uniquely sometimes featured made up newspaper headlines praising her.

She won the semi with what I thought was a poor song choice. So with a good song and pimp again...

After the Sun article exposing Richard has having copied a trick exactly from a magician on AGT they may not want such a winner as him. He didn't even bother changing the performance, which he could have done while keeping the same fundamental trick. That shows not just a lack of imagination but stupidity.

If he won then all the press would copy the Sun's article (with the usual accreditation of course) and this would damage the BGT brand. For this reason there is a possibility that he will be stuck in slot 2 and damned with faint praise. Before, I'd have had him in the penultimate slot, before Beau, but now there's a strong chance he won't be anywhere near that.
