yeah I've just seen that elise.  Had the window still open, so they they should resettle it when it's shown on the official website.  I just paused sky+ which showed Austria 27th and Germany 26th

How did they decide Austria was last as both they and Germany got 0 points?

Surprised by Austria, I thought they were better than the 7 or so above them. Not last anyway. (I didn't actually see Austria tonight - coffee break)

I would have thought that if it was a dead heat that they will both be classed as last place being as both countries did not score a point.

I backed Lithuania and Poland mainly but also backed Austria Germany and Hungary for buttons.  Laid a few for buttons too.  Since I backed Austria in the 20s and 30s I really missed a trick there.  Austria last because they were further away from a point than Germany I imagine

Yeah of course, they'll have both received public votes and surely the odd jury point. The EBU want to be open, it would be good to get the phone vote numbers out of them.

Actually Germany should be settled as last! The rules state that the country with the lowest draw number gets placed first in event of a tie which can't be split by most numvber of 12 points, then 10s etc etc

Austria had Home Field Advantage so Germany won on away goals rule (or no goals in this case) ;)

Blimey imagine if Sweden beat Russia/Italy that way? I thought I read somewhere that pv trumped jury vote but that might relate to something else?

PV trumps jury when calculating an individual Nation's scores for the other participants. not when two countries tie on points.

That's what I thought but cjhornet says it isn't this. Draw order didn't sound right to me.

As it happens the scoreboard is wrong.  Germany bt Austria in the televote.  Austria got 40 points and finished 13th with the juries!!

according to Wiki anyway, which could of course be wrong. Couldn't find it on the official site.  Italy won the televote comfortably!

What's the chance they still charge me 40% premium charge on the winnings it turns out I didn't win on Austria?

Couldn't make this up

They've changed it back again to showing Germany last now.  Appears it is the running order and not the televote that counts.  Oh well, just hope I haven't been charged premium charges on the winnings I never had.  Of all the weeks I could choose from to calculate premium charge this would be the last one I'd choose.  Got at least 5 partially settled markets in that lot.

Re. the point about draw order - that subject came up on the ESC Insight podcast last week and that is indeed the rule but I think it applied to tangible points - not sure if they envisaged 0-0 when the rule was made given we hadn't had a 0 since 2003.

The rule states it applies to any other ties that can't be split by countback. So worth considering when placing a bet on last place next year, go for later order countries that may get 0 ;)
