A Royal source told the Telegraph: "If the Queen was going to make a major announcement, she wouldn't do it in a pre-recorded speech that is shown in the South Pacific Commonwealth realms several hours before it is shown here.

"It would mean the end of her reign would officially be announced in Tuvalu, rather than in London. So no, it's not true."

Did BF include itv+1 and ch4+1 in the figures, if so the queens speech should be included imo, if not seems the right decision.
Report Cider December 27, 2014 4:06 PM GMT
I would personally lose out if it was settled like this, but if TQS was only listed once, and the individual channel was not distinguished/specified, then the combined figures should be used. My understanding is that it's exactly the same show broadcast, and they take turns to produce it. BBC, ITV and Sky? It's not like a World cup Final or a Royal Wedding for example, which are different productions of the same event.
Report Cider December 27, 2014 4:16 PM GMT
Planning starts early with The Queen's choice of a theme which she wishes to address. Appropriate footage is then filmed during various public engagements - and occasionally private events - during the remainder of the year. Since 1997, the BBC and ITV have alternated in filming and producing the Broadcast every two years

Difference is that those are repeats rather than simulcasts which is quite different (i.e. in theory with repeats the same person could be watching it twice, but not really with simulcast).

Think it is a very difficult and unique situation though and especially tough for betfair compared to normal bookmakers.

And yeah it is exactly the same show Cider, produced this year by BBC

It's like getting blood out of a stone,,
they are saying they are waiting for the official BARB figures.
But they dont know when these will be released or when they will settle the market.

In fairness l have always found them to be good prior to this but will never bet on a market like this with them again.
Report squares December 29, 2014 7:24 AM GMT
official figures are usually about a fortnight i believe
Report Cider December 29, 2014 9:23 AM GMT
The thing is, Overnights are official figures.

Consolidated data incorporates playback of time-shifted content within 7 days of the original broadcast. This timeshift viewing is added to the live data to produce consolidated viewing data made available 8 days after the original transmission date. Consolidated data is the BARB Gold Standard used by the industry to report and trade on.

Conventionally this market is settled on the Overnights. Clearly this is because you wouldn't want to wait a number of days or weeks to settle the market. It's also the overnights that are reported in the media as the 'winner'. Only the specialist media is concerned with consolidated figures.

Sounds like a cop out by 365, because TQS will be reported separately in the consolidated figures as well. The chances are however that it will be overtaken by something that was more likely to be recorded. I doubt many people watch TQS after Xmas day.

If they choose to settle on consolidated because it suits their book this year, it won't end there.
Report Cider December 29, 2014 10:32 AM GMT
I did a quick bit of research, and as suspected TQS has no chance on consolidated. It only picked up between 100K - 200K on consolidated last year.

(Approximation of consolidated increases last year)

DW 2.8
MBB 2.1
CTM 2.1
DA 1.9
EE 1.6
SCD 1.5
CS 1.4

Obviously there are variables, DW regeneration, MBB on later this year, etc.

lol at this analysis of TQS topping Overnight numbers

Lizo Mzimba, entertainment correspondent, BBC News
Some might be surprised to see the Queen top of the overnight TV ratings, but it is not unexpected, at least in that initial snapshot of who watched what on Christmas Day.

It is one of the few programmes that people and families still like to sit down and watch as it is broadcast. It has the added appeal of being shown on more than one channel.

Nothing to do with the abdication rumours then Grin
Report five leaves left December 29, 2014 1:27 PM GMT
lol yep. Even my mum had heard about the rumours

I've just seen the barb consolidated figures on their site, don't appear to include +1. So the ITV ones aren't right
Report Cider December 29, 2014 1:58 PM GMT
My opinion, the market should only be based upon the day, ie the Overnights. The market is about the most watched programme on Xmas day, not the programme that was broadcast on Xmas day but recorded and viewed several days later included.

HD, +1 and timelapse on Xmas day should also be included. ie any viewings on the same day added together.

I wasn't around for the morning of the TQS price crash, but my suspicion is that 365 were slow to update the prices and have a big liability on TQS courtesy of arbers. It's 1000 that TQS will top the consolidated figures.
