Are they going to put other markets like papal name, nationality, and length of the conclave?
In other bookers they have pretty tasty odds

small lays for dozens of cardinals.

business as usual at the vatican.
Report Powelliphanta superba superba March 12, 2013 1:01 PM GMT
There is a list that was written supposedly in the 12th century i believe that listed 112 popes all of which (if you believe those thtat say) have all come true. The next pope is the last pope on the list and he is suppose to be known as " peter the roman ", so that might be a big clue. The list may only be true because maybe those cardinals vote in who ever they think best matches the name on the list, and the closest that come sto that maybe Peter Erdo who has done a lot of work for the romany gypsies.
Report Horangi. March 12, 2013 1:12 PM GMT
From what I understand the prophecy is crap, revised later and all the usual nonsense.  Although it still could be followed for whatever reasons, a plan perhaps...

But based in logic some of these Peter candidates are far too low.  If Turkson didn't have the name Peter his odds would be easily 25's+, worst case maybe Bertone (middle name Peter and a born Roman) who is blamed for a lot of the woes of the Curia and from what I read has next to no chance of garnering any votes is trading as a frontrunner of sorts.

At this point I think the best value is Bergoglio from Argentina.  Insiders claim he was second to the highly favored Ratzinger at the last conclave and apparently he impressed the cardinals with some speech this past week.  Latin American pope seems logical at this point in time.  Only strike holding him back, at least to the mainstream pov, is he's now 76 and possibly not the man to replace a pope who just had to retire.  Seems in pretty good shape for his age though.  And another shorter run could allow the cardinals to select a rising star in Tagle down the line.
Report viva el presidente! March 12, 2013 3:10 PM GMT
latin america's turn, imo.
Report Horangi. March 12, 2013 3:10 PM GMT
Sandri at 30-1+ also not a bad bet at this point.  Latin America seems logical, this guy is right in the mix.

Other main L.A candidate in Scherer appears to be in the discussion as well but odds too low to back now.
Report Horangi. March 12, 2013 3:11 PM GMT
Another sign of a L.A pope, same thoughts posted at the same time...its a sign!
Report Horangi. March 12, 2013 3:12 PM GMT
Also note Scherer is seen as a Curia backed candidate which probably won't help him in the end.
Report viva el presidente! March 12, 2013 9:56 PM GMT
at any rate, will be less of a stitch up than last time.

Report George Bailey March 13, 2013 12:07 AM GMT
VC must be classing slamming the vatican doors behind them and locking them in the same as "the phone lines are now closed" Laugh...no phones, signal jammed and excommunicated if they try to leak the result and still VC doesn't trust them Sad

On a serious note the longer it goes the better value an outsider winning it as they will look for a compromise candidate.
Report viva el presidente! March 13, 2013 12:32 AM GMT
victor is very sensible. imo. I wouldn't trust those feckers with 2p for the collection plate.

if it's gonna be an outsider, let it be a rank one.
Report Horangi. March 13, 2013 1:28 AM GMT
Puzzles me why Turkson has been bet down into the 5's since the conclave started.  No where did I read from the "insiders" he was a serious top contender before this started.  Sure maybe he is in the top 10 or so but that's about it, I'd be quite surprised if he emerged as pope.

On a serious note the longer it goes the better value an outsider winning it as they will look for a compromise candidate.

If Scola doesn't get it today I think he's chances are done.
Report Horangi. March 13, 2013 12:22 PM GMT
Apparently Italian papers may have sources for this fiasco.  I see Ouellet's name being mentioned seriously in the mix and his odds have tumbled, Scola still right there as well.  Word is Scherer's chances are fading.  I don't believe in the Dolan murmurs, this guy can't speak Italian or Spanish...makes no sense.  Bergoglio mentioned as well.

This is ridiculous, I thought these geezers were locked up.  ffs
Report viva el presidente! March 13, 2013 12:23 PM GMT
I'm not sure that anti-mafia raid will have helped them either.

Report bearcub March 13, 2013 6:21 PM GMT
its in the rules that they suspend when they did
Report Fangsy March 13, 2013 6:24 PM GMT
My point was that they've suspended on the white smoke, not on the announcement as per the rules.  Are the cardinals going to be on their mobiles having a few quid?  Betfair is blocked in Italy too!
Report bearcub March 13, 2013 6:27 PM GMT

Report viva el presidente! March 13, 2013 6:29 PM GMT
three hundred plus quid hoover on scola, just before suspension. that's why.

correct to suspend when they did, in accordance with their rules:

Betfair reserves the right to suspend, cancel unmatched bets and turn in-play or re-open this market as and when information becomes available to it.
