Chapman did do a piece in the RP on the Oscars a while back. Can't remember much about it tbh,but he did suggest a few bets although I don't recall exactly what.....seem to remember him advising Life of Pi (and possibly one other) at big prices for Best Picture, and Ang Lee for Best Director. He did suggest possibly a couple of other bets, but I can't remember them.

The Adapted Screenplay award usually goes to a film that just misses out in the Best Picture category, so it's unlikely that Argo will win this one as it's massive odds-on for the big one.

Out of the last 7 years there have only been 3 pics up for both awards
They won it every time ![]() |
|
By:
That's strange...I remember reading this fact several years ago...maybe it refers to films that just missed out on even being nominated for Best Picture that should have been?

The markets on here are all going In-Play and the liquidity is usually pretty good on Oscars night with the live show.

you made me go look.
Last 25 years, 10 have done the best pic, best adapted double Only 3 times another adapted screenplay won. 2004 Sideways beat Million Dollar Baby 2002 The Pianist beat Chicago 1996 Sling Blade(?) beat The English Patient 1.73 got to be worth the risk (especially as it has already won the Writers Guild Award who got had 10 double winners and Sling Blade and Sideways as well) Price should be a lot closer to the best pic price |

Got a few bets on so may stay up. Few favourites worth opposing - Spielberg could be one but there are probably better ones. Les Mis & Life Of Pi could easily win a few of the more minor categories each.
|
|
By:
Agre about life of pi pop think it could do well in the craft categories
|
|
By:
Anna Karenina a decent 1/3 shot in costume design. Been wiping the floor with Les Mis including the Costume Design Guild award
|
|
By:
Well it wins some where it's favourite (Visual Effects, Score, Cinematography) but it could easily take Sound Editing as well and then maybe even Production Design, or Best Director.
Les Mis will take Sound Mixing and is in the mix too for Production Design (FWIW I think Anna Karenina beats both in PD). I fancy it could take Make Up too, challenge AK for costume design, and even upset Adele for best Song. Would not surprise me to see them take 7-10 between them. |
|
By:
I've backed Les Mis for make up also, Hobbit had no impact like LOTR made. Will probably get a few at the end of part 3. Thats the theory anyway

My Pics:
Best Picture – Argo Best Director – Steven Spielberg, but worth opposing with Ang Lee at the prices. Best Actor – Daniel Day-Lewis Best Actress – Jennifer Lawrence, although I backed Jessica Chastain mainly before the controversy. Best Supporting Actor – Robert De Niro, although it could go to Christopher Waltz Best Supporting Actress – Anne Hathaway Best Original Screenplay – Zero Dark Thirty Best Adapted Screenplay – Argo Best Song – Suddenly, Les Miserables Best Score – Life Of Pi Best Sound Editing – Life Of Pi Best Sound Mixing – Les Miserables Best Cinematography – Life Of Pi Best Film Editing – Argo Best Visual Effects – Life Of Pi Best Production Design – Anna Karenina Best Costume Design – Anna Karenina Best Make-Up – Les Miserables Best Foreign Language – Amour Best Animated Feature – Wreck-It-Ralph, although Frankenweenie could easily win too and I am on both. Best Animated Short – Paperman Best Live-Action Short - Curfew Best Documentary Feature – Searching For Sugar Man Best Documentary Short - Inocente |

By:
Not far off mine
I've laid Tommy Lee Jones first up so hopefully we both collect Hope you are wrong about the song, and I've got Django Best Original Screenplay |
|
By:
You could be right. I just think if they are going to give Zero Dark Thirty an award, it could be there. Amour could even win.
I really don't think the odds reflect Adele's true chance. Sure, I understand her being favourite, but the older Academy may like to reward the new song written for the hottest musical of the year. |

Adele is a stupid price now agreed
