The market has finally figured out that Ellie has more chance than Weir.  I couldn't pick him out from a line up of two, whereas it feels like Ellie has had massive exposure.  The paralympics have been the huge breakthrough story of these games and could be the lasting lagacy.  I think TPTB would be thrilled beyond words to get Ellie in the top 3 or better, and I think she has provided them with enough buttons to push.  She's vulnerable and totally adorable.  I can see her mopping up the casual vote, especially if they really go for it in the VT and show her tearful winners speech after the 200m.  The person I want to see holding up that trophy at the end of the night is Ellie.  If this was a popularity contest rather than a sporting achievement contest, Ellie would ge the one who is 1.5 not Bradley.  Luckily for her layers its not a popularity contest.... or is it?

Looks a good bet without the top 4

I agree when she walks on the stage with a smile as broad as she is tall will get a massive likability vote, dont know if it will get her 3rd 4th or 5th but certainly best of the rest and a gimme versus the wolfman.

That's it JOT, you've put it better than I could have.  I think the feel good factor in voting for Ellie is huge, the prospect of her tiny figure standing up there with that huge grin, holding the trophy, sobbing while trying to get her winner's speech out is irrestible.  This is a complete one off, there is no rule book here, no way of quantifying this, so I totally accept she could sink without trace, but given all the unknowns it seems daft not to have her well onside at these prices.

I guess our view could be distorted by our personal experience of her, with my wife having met her 3 years ago.  For some reason she visited the gym where my wife was working and she had her two gold medals with her.  My wife asked if she could hold them and Ellie said 'yeah of course' gave them to her and promptly wondered off, totally trusting.  I guess she was about 14 at the time, and she was exactly what you would hope she would be.  She made a real impression on my wife and everyone else she met that day.

Sorry but I'm a huge sports fan and I didn't even watch the paralympics. I don't know what she looks like nor do I care. Its a sporting achievment prize intrinsically and we have some hugely achieving candidates im mainstream, able bodied sports this year. She's 11 for a top 3 place, add a 0 on the end I still wouldnt risk a £1.

Its certainly out of the box thinking - land this I'll be in awe

Hi Bexley, genuine sports fan aren't gonna vote for Ellie.  To win an Olympic gold medal you have to be the best out of billions.  To win a Paralympic Gold you have to be the best out of thousands, and sports fans like yourself will be aware of that.  But I do think that Ellie has immense votability, and could pick up a huge casual vote on the night.  We know that she is doing reasonably well in the polls, so there are people going into the show tonight ready to vote her into 5th place already.  Once you add in all the people who she enchants tonight, who knows.

ah crap not again.... forum issues

meant to say Ellie's polling is much higher than I could have anticipated and this year the sports nut vote may well be dwarfed by those casual viewers with the feelgood Olympic factor.

Good luck with your bet - it certainly looks better value than my Muzza top 3 bet Wink

Lucky I didn't realise there was a h2h market with Weir at the bookies, he beat her into 6th.  Rotten draw and her cuteness didn't come across on the night. Under the circumstances she did pretty well I think.

Would have beaten Weir without his pimp OC
