Despite other cyclist, after Cavendish, can there
really be any threat to Wiggins, especially as he's a strong favourite also for Olympic gold.

No challenge at all. Best get on now though before the shrewdies lump on as he does his victory ride down the Champs de Lysee.

shame murray never won wimbledon, what a market spoty would of been this year Sad
Report hemsby • July 22, 2012 9:47 AM BST
Not a player in this market so an impartial view.

I have followed the TDF reasonably closely for the past 10 years, yet even with a Brit favourite to win,and ultimately being successful today,I have hardly watched a stage this year. The little I have watched has appeared unexciting and drama less....and whilst I appreciate the extent of Wiggins achievement,I wonder if I'm alone in my reaction,or if others feel the same.
Would it be fair to say he has beaten a sub standard field? I could be wrong as I'm no expert, but there doesn't seem to be the quality of competitor that previous years have had.
I don't know if the cycling community block vote is enough for him to win SPOTY,but if he needs a large chunk of the general public to vote,I would have huge doubts they would.Of course,if the Olympics throws up multiple contenders, that may dilute their respective votes enough to get Wiggins across the line, but at current odds I see him as no value.

I can't think of any events coming up that might get in the way of Wiggins. Can anyone?
Report alfie46 • July 22, 2012 9:57 AM BST
I don't know of anyone, other than a few on here, who are remotely interested in Bradley Wiggins and his bicycleWink
Report GeorgeBrush • July 22, 2012 9:58 AM BST
The news reports are having to tell us who his is first
Report GeorgeBrush • July 22, 2012 9:58 AM BST
he is first

Why are all cyclists and most F1 drivers boring? Slow heart beat or some biobabble I suppose.
Report GeorgeBrush • July 22, 2012 1:04 PM BST
I like Cavendish tbf. Be a very good bb contestant. Bit of a tw@t
Report timbuctooth • July 22, 2012 1:04 PM BST
Ridiculous price, with the Olympics coming up. Not just any Olympics, but a HOME Olympics ffs. So many stories yet to be told will unfold over the next few weeks, many from unexpected and relatively unknown quarters. Lay! Lay! Lay!
Report GeorgeBrush • July 22, 2012 1:06 PM BST
It's the new paradigm tim. Don't fight it Wink  When Murray cries losing the olympic final there'll be another new paradigm though

When's the TDF coronation today?

What sort of competition is it that on the last day if the second is a few seconds behind they let the leader win? According to what I have been reading/hearing.

It's effectively finished, today just allows France to welcome the riders home. Lap of honour as such, altho many laps oc.
Report GeorgeBrush • July 22, 2012 4:49 PM BST
Well done wiggins. Not particularly a fan of his, but that is an awesome achievement. Straight to Sir Bradley I would think

If markets are right and we achieve plenty of golds, it will take something special to stand out.
Report George Bailey • July 22, 2012 7:49 PM BST
When a brit beats a brit in the TDF you know its shyte
Report George Bailey • July 22, 2012 7:51 PM BST
Almost as little interest shown by the GBP as in test cricket these days.
Report mafeking • July 22, 2012 7:56 PM BST
he'll be very hard to beat if he wins the time trial you'd imagine. only a double gold medallist of which we have a few chances should beat him.

can't see ennis winning on the back of a single gold medal no matter how photogenic she is or bubbly her personality. GB are gonna sweep the board in a home olympics. 1 gold surely won't cut it.
Report George Bailey • July 22, 2012 8:04 PM BST
won't matter if he wins or not so long as he drifts to odds against which he will. Laying them when the betters have a rush of blood to the head in the heat of the moment is a cast iron way of making money...ask GB Wink

What a crazy old market.  Most bookies are down at 1.67 and yet BF is still 1.9 - a value bet if ever I saw one.
Report timbuctooth • July 23, 2012 2:40 AM BST
The overround on here is currently 116%. Victor C, as just one example on Oddschecker, are working with an overround of 260%. So, gettimg 1.9 on what the bookies are only paying 1.67 doesn`t necessarily represent `actual` value, it`s just better value than the bookies can get away with offering.
Report nigelpm1 • July 23, 2012 7:25 AM BST
fair point but it's hugely above what the bookies are offering as well

Wiggins now 1.66....Voters seemed to know who Cavendish was last year. Wiggins heading rapidly to 1.4 especially if he wins his Olypic ride  and Ennis doesn't deliver. My advice- get on it quickly
