Despite ropey rehearsals/shaky vocal I think the fact it's up after the facebook song should make it look like a masterpiece!
I just have a feeling that all these kitsch/ditzy/bubble gum songs will do well in this time of Euro-depression. I know that traditionally they don't have a great track record, but people want/need some fun!

I think Cyprus will qualify tbh I put it in my list, however I'd be tempted to lay it at the price. It will disappear without trace once Saturday results come around, I have no doubt whatsoever about that.
I take your point onboard but imo juries will kill it and when it comes to 'feelgood' factor songs then there are better ones

It's all about Romania for me.  For once I got on a steaming train before it left the platform (got 12/1 with bwin on the semi win, now generally 6s)

They only just scraped thru from the pimp slot last year with a better song and better staging.

Yes, I've got Ireland out and Belgium in. Again, I just don't see Ireland who barely scraped through last time making it with what by all accounts is a poorer version of their last rendition. But I wouldn't exclude that they make it...

The definite non-qualifiers for me are San Marino and Montenegro. I'd wager my house that they won't make it without losing any sleep. I'd also be really, really surprised if Austria or Latvia made it. Beyond that everyone still stands a chance in my read...

This time last year Jedmania was at fever pitch in Germany with the pair hardly seen without Lena hanging out of, or banging on about them. The same was true with the fanfare here in the red tops and media at this point last year.

This year I think there has been much less of a fuss over them. I don't think there will be a big contraction in their price like last year, so beware traders, however I do think that their management feel the job's done already with the fanbase they've garnered during and subsequent to ESC 2011. A strong televote should have them in the final and that's all they want - nothing greater expected... Just to get through and put another 12 months on their shelf life

^^ That said I certainly wouldn't be backing them at the price, with their main televote opposition in the same semi and an arguably weaker overall package in terms of song and production. I'll be leaving them alone

not their performance just the song isn't quite as good as a few bloggers had me believing

I think it's a decent enough soft rock song but not as much appeal as something like New Tomorrow from last year that the juries loved.

From Twitter, I get a hunch that the Irish twins might be able to mobilize their 500.000 Twitter followers to launch a televoting campaign to lift their dismal song with its desperate over the top performance to the finals.

I think you're the only one who finds it more gimmicky.  The general concensus seems to be the song is better, but less gimmicky...

Popking, last year the gimmick looked fresh. And the performance and the backdrop tied in neatly with the song. This year it looks old, worn and contrived. These boys haven't progressed, they're regressing... I don't see that as a winning formula but they do have a fanbase. So I'm changing my prediction to them not landing in the top 10 with the juries. In my opinion, they might still make it by virtue of the televote although that may well be a heavy lift...

It's all about opinions Spanky - I know you rate the Italian song highly but there's many on here, myself included who don't see it living up the hype.  I'm happy to back Ireland in the overall top 10 market though, and lay Italy at the current price.

Yes, I do rate Italy highly BUT I haven't seen the camera work. Based on the You Tube clips which don't give us the full picture, I'm now inclined to see Romania as a strong contender for the televote. It would not surprise my if they top it. I still see Italy as getting a good jury score but I cant judge if it will be enough...

I wish we could see the closeups of the camera work that the guys in the press room get... Then I'd feel more certain about Italy.

I'd be surprised if they top the jury vote. It would not surprise me if they win the televote. Overall, I think they can win. So far, I've only had this feeling with Italy who have the class but may just miss the oomph in their performance to captivate a broad audience.

Well I don't see Romania or Italy as winners, but I'm happy with the one of the 2 I have green at least.

Before I post my selections (which are pretty much the same with most, it might be the order that changes only), I have a question. It seems that the 'Big 5' plus Azerbaijan won't be voting in any semi. I remember last year those countries would be drawn to vote in one or the other semi. Has that changed this year (I guess it should), or have I just screwed up and those countries will be voting tonight (some of them) and on Thursday (the rest of them)???

Agree with the lays on Cyprus might sneak in but an easy lay to finish top 3 in this. 6/4 Denmark and Romania dutched strikes me as infinitely better value than Sweden in the outright, and Romania in paricular looks a place lock. Most of the qualification value has gone but Albania should make it through ay 4/6 the 8/14 Romania top3 makes more appeal.
