Why is this pointless non ranking event on during the bulk of January when they crammed in the qualifiers for German Masters & Wuhan Open pre-Christmas?

CL has been in this slot for years, as have the pre-Xmas Qs (German, at least). It used to be a really good betting medium, but we don't even get BFLV pics any more (or at least we haven't for the last two, possibly three).

I notice it's on youtube this year - not sure if that's been the case for a while or not..

Not sure it's too far behind - dunno who else is showing it though - but the few quid that is in the market disappears and you know next pots missed. Watching youtube through a SkyQ box is about 18 seconds behind watching it on the ipad!

Just had a quick look at Selt v Trump. Selt's score went up by 7 on 365 about 7 seconds before he potted the black. So, yeah, I suspect your estimate of 8 secs is about right. Bit too long for me, given how important cueball position can be.
