An amateur athlete who receives only an Athlete Personal Award is unlikely to be taxable on this income. However, if an athlete is organising their activities in a business-like manner and with a view to making a profit, then their income, including any APA, will probably be taxable.

I always thought the prize money itself was non-taxable

in some events 1st round losers win nothing
they've effectively "worked" for nothing

doesn't have any legal basis to class sporting competition as work

looking forward to the final between Judd and john, could be a great game, if snooker was a potting contest then Judd should be a worthy fav to beat john, but as we all know there's more to snooker than just potting and that's where I'm sticking with john to beat Judd, he's a far better all round player, he's more nerve and if john steals a march at some point in this match, expect Judd's attempts at long potting start missing by a distance gifting chance upon chance for Higgins to mop up

huge pressure on Judd to finally become world champ

pressure on Higgins not lose 3 finals in a row

Higgins will NOT lose to Judd

there's only one player been standing in Trump's way from winning the WC

and that player is himself and even tho' Higgins is nowhere near playing remotely well

he has no peers as a matchplayer not even Selby

Trump could win cosily,he SHOULD win cosily but if Higgins can start well

he is well capable of succumbing

so hopefully we can look forward to another intriguing encounter

trump has timed his run nicely and since round one has won his matches comfortably, he said at the start of the tournament his plan was to peak for the later stages and I feel he's doing that. the last few frames he played pretty well tonight which is a good sign for the final.

obviously you never know in sport but hard to be confident about john in the same way, he has been all out obviously to win his matches, and I think that could be the decisive factor- trump will have more left. He should have beaten john last year and was outplaying him for large parts of the 2011 final. If the john that turned up last night turns up for the final he will get slaughtered- there's no way that judd would have let him off the hook in the same way. Obviously john will be aware of that but I just wonder how much he has left.

I know I am biased but everything points to judd so it's just fingers crossed now.

Report gobelins May 5, 2019 9:32 AM BST
It's a totally valid point from J.Higgins, and recently there have been occasions when they have ended the 3rd session early, to give the players more rest before the final session. Which begs the question - why don't they start the afternoon sessions of the final at least an hour earlier?
Report crepello May 5, 2019 9:58 AM BST
Given the HTH record it makes for an intriguing encounter but, surely, Judd will have too much over 35 frames - Higgins looks spent and no wonder given the effort he had to make to beat Gilbert who snatched defeat from the jaws of victory - just how did he mange to do that?

If, and it is an if, Judd gets flying he could slaughter his opponent - come on Judd - do just that.

I hate to admit it but I would get some pleasure out of Higgins being dished out an embarrassing defeat.

how inconsiderate of them lats booking the wedding date during the hallowed 17 days, what is wrong with people nowadays?? Laugh

same as in his QF with robbo, john boy dragged dave down to his level
the table wasn't playing good (I expect the same in the final as both john & judd use the triangle chalk)
throw in a big dollop of tension & all the makings were there for a true lakeside classic, and we got 1 Grin

great to see what winning & losing means to some players

Saw Dave's interview this morning (still not seen the final frame).  Felt really sorry for him.  Seems like a genuinely lovely bloke.  Really hope he finds his way to a title, because there's a decent player in there.  Like 2., he badly needs to get his head in front in one before he'll truly believe (and even then he might put it down to a fluke...).
