He was on the team at the world championships when it was a really late match i think involving ebdon in the final - Jimmy was totally legless could hardly stand up and slurring speech so that might be the reason ... anybody has got to be better than dennis taylor who is well past his sell by date ..

i didn't know about that! Would be worth giving him a proper run despite this I feel. I'm not hugely anti-Taylor but perhaps he could do with spell on the bench?

Virgo and White in the commetry box would make me happy. Couple of good old boys.

not sure Jimmy thinks about the game all that much - Parrott, Davis and Hendry in particular do well on the BBC to give informed opinion, Jimmy was more of a natural who probably wouldn't be able to talk about the game for any long period of time.
If Jimmy turned up hammered and slept all through the commentary gig it would be better than Taylor though, truly awful and he is still using that [expletive deleted] pen |

He was given every chance, nothing to do with Hearn, the bbc are far more powerful than him.
Not very realiable is a probable reason but the main one was Hendry's retirement and Stephen is excellent both on the couch and in commentary. Wish they would get rid of Davis and his Parrot and bring a bit of freshness to a very tired format. I cannot think of worse commentators than those 2. |

Why not have Jimmy around the venue interviewing and shaking hands with the snooker public, press men, bookmakers and player's families? He clearly is a sociable guy and a people person - that could be interesting. He would have to stay sober of course but it might be a niche role for him at the latter stages of big events. He is used to the cameras by now and could be upskilled a litlle.
Snooker is a working class game, we have a genuine working class hero that people enjoy hearing from and he is not included? Madness. I partly tune into the darts because Bobby George is such a great character. |

For much the same reason that you don't see Gazza on match of the day. Just because you were good at a sport doesn't mean you have anything worth saying that you can communicate on tv.

since the BBC decided to get rid of Clive Everton from their snooker commentary team I have no faith in their decision making process whatsoever...
and yes , it would be great to hear jimmy on the mic , if he's p1ssed , even better , may be more entertaining than whats happening on the baize !! |

Willie and Foulds are the best for me.Taylor and Virgo
,Ken ![]() ![]() |

Ken I don't mind because he was such a crafty player he brings tactical insight. His nerves show thtough a little too much though so it's less comfortable listening to him. I think at the end of the day, if the match is decent you are so engrossed don't notice the commentry too much.

I would be more comfortable with Ken if he wasn't such a Hearn and Davis arsx licker.
Hendry must be seething inside to have to sit next to the likes of Davis, Parrot and now Doherty and listen to them get things so wrong. If the bbc put in for the big 3 tournaments when this contract runs out the season after next I do hope they have a good clear out. Snooker and its players deserve more adult analysis. Hendry must be seething inside sometimes, much better player than all 3 put together and more in tune with the game itself. |

It has been said many times before, but the gravitas of Clive Everton is sorely missed. He is stil the current 'voice of snooker' to the public.

Very strange affair getting rid of Clive but through his magazine he did make enemies. Totally agree with your sentiment. |
