Ebdon should have understood from the very beginning that Carter was not in his class so it was extremely unlikely that he could follow through with any game plan.

I thought Carter was a disgrace to the game and turned down full and half chances in equal measure.
Glaring at Ronnie was a disgrace and showed a complete disregard for the niceties of our sport.
Ronnie gave him chance after chance but his game was just not up to it.

There was one shot that you would expect any pro to knock in at least nine times out of ten which was hanging over the pocket. Carter refused the shot opting to play safe knowing that if he messed up, Ronnie would have the same shot on. Carter misjudged the shot and allowed Ronnie to pot the ball.

Why on earth would you not pot the ball knowing that if you miss the safety, your opponent is in? At the minimum, if Carter had missed the shot, he would have moved the ball away from the pocket.

By the end of the match Carter didn't know his 4rse from his elbow - he'd so messed up his own head with his daft strategy.

Time after time for the past week Virgo/Taylor would comment that there was a chance for Ali only for him to place safe, they gave up in the end

Carter's 'gameplan' of negativity and gamesmanship clearly had Ebdon's fingerprints all over it. Two unpleasant people the game could well do without.
