backing 10/3 in a match bet would never be a massive mistake, absolute rubbish about ebdon peaking too soon ... where do you get that silly notion from

Snooker is a funny old game and being obsessed by it for over 40 years of my adult life there is not much I have not seen.
Ronnie will be very happy with the draw and knows that all things being equal he should outclass peter who did so well in china but players of his age usually dont put two good tournaments together.
But you never know.

Believe me, Ebdon in the first round would have been his worst case scenario ... he hates playing slow methodical players, that's why he's not too keen on playing Selby either ... as for too old to string two tournaments together, i have backed him to win one match, not the tournament and he has recently switched to a vegan diet which he has stated gives him much more energy. Of course Ronnie should be favourite and should win but the odds should be closer to 2/1, 9/4 for Ebdon in my opinion, don't forget Ebdon has been in 3 world finals the same number as O'Sullivan.

I accept your points and agree its a value bet but as a big fan of Peter I think his game is way off the player who frustrated Ronnie years ago. I do not accept what Davis and his Parrot says about the game improving and am more in line with what Ebdon and Murphy thinks, along with the great majority of players who say bigger breaks are more to do with improved conditions than better players.
Peter outclassed Maguire in china who is so typical of the player these tables have produced, when their A games go missing so do they. Peter would always figure in my top ten of all time and have seen him live many times from his ponytail days through his really great days of beating Hendry fair and square over 4 sessions in the final some years ago. He was more fluent then but has addapted his game accordingly and if players dont like it then the answer is in their hands ---dont miss. For me Peters game is a shadow of its former self and because of that even a 70% Ronnie is going to win comfortably. Ronnie will not mind how long Peter takes, I think he needs time to settle in now. Anyway, its just my opinion and it would not be the first time I have been proved wrong.

could be a cracking bet but on the other hand ROS always shows up at sheffield though he's aged considerably and cannot be compared to the god he was in the past

Ebdon looked to be cueing more confidently leading up to the China Open of which i saw none of it. I actually tipped Ebdon up for the World Champs before the China Open as i was impressed by hid cue action when he played in the league against Perry, even though he lost that match 3-2. Once Ebdon starts cueing confidently he can beat anyone, especially over the longer format. It would not surprise me in the slightest if Ronnie struggles against Ebdon.

Ronnie is always short priced. Not so much in the last year or so. Tempting fate here but he ain't no world beater anymore. Tempted by Ebdon but... he is as tempremental as Ronnie.
Tempted by Ebdon but really not sure. One thing is sure sure im not backing Ronnie at the off.

From the break off in frame 1, Ebdon tried slowing the game down. He was negative in the extreme from the outset. Even in the 1st frame re-spot he played containing safety shots.
It took him 4 minutes to compile breaks of 15-25. He never got into any rhythm, despite being amongst the balls on numerous occasions. Only time he played at any sort of natural pace, he won the last frame at a canter with a decent break.
