Lots matched in the 200s.
Report dizzydavid1 September 19, 2015 7:13 PM BST
Wow! Thanks . I know very little about rugby so if "wow" sounds naïve forgive me.
Report Latalomne September 19, 2015 7:17 PM BST
Not at all!  Biggest shock I've ever seen in the sport.  Superb attitude from them to go for the jugular when the draw was virtually guaranteed.
Report dizzydavid1 September 19, 2015 7:21 PM BST
Biggest rugby shock you ever saw? Thanks for putting it in context for me. I live 10 minutes walk from Twickenham stadium but I barely know a scrum from a line out and as for offside or penalties, it's all Greek to me. I watched the last 30 minutes of the Japan game though and it was very exciting. Maybe this tournament will make a convert of me.

Have to agree. There may have been bigger handicap starts that went on to win a game, but in terms of high level rugby that has to be the biggest shock ever.
Report the bloob September 19, 2015 7:39 PM BST
anybody know what the best bookies odds on Japan were?
Report homefortea September 19, 2015 7:40 PM BST
Some half-wit on the BBC site was trying to compare the result with the biggest shocks in sport..

He/she/it came up with Wimbledon beating Liverpool in the FA Cup Final..

Shows what freaks post on there as I backed Wimbledon at 40/1 to win the FA Cup before round three and they were fifth in the League..

Japan were any price before the game.....

Biggest shock in sport since Buster beat Mike Tyson...
Report dlarssonf September 19, 2015 7:44 PM BST
much bigger than buster/tyson imo
Report Charlton2005 September 19, 2015 7:44 PM BST
buster was 40/1

japan were 400/1

wimbledon were prob 6/1 before final

sunderland 12s to beat leeds

NOTHING is comparable to today
Report alun2005 September 19, 2015 7:52 PM BST
Australia were No OFFERS - 1.01 to beat Bangladesh in a one-day cricket match in 2005 at Cardiff.  They were beaten.
Report dizzydavid1 September 19, 2015 8:21 PM BST
Japan have jumped from 200s here to 400/1? Was 400/1 really available?
Report dizzydavid1 September 19, 2015 8:22 PM BST
Sorry..."in the 200s"
Report curious-cat September 19, 2015 8:27 PM BST
my local team in Wales, Risca, with my brother-in-law playing beat the All Blacks in 1963.
Report curious-cat September 19, 2015 8:29 PM BST
Well, actually, Risca beat Newbridge who beat Newport who beat the All Blacks .. all in 1963.
Report homefortea September 19, 2015 8:32 PM BST
Buster was bigger than 40/1..

Wimbledon would not have been 6/1 to win the FA Cup outright when they reached the final and were fifth in the League..

Japan were top priced at 70/1 to win at that Oirish firm of knockers and chancers..
Report CheltenhamRoar September 19, 2015 8:40 PM BST
Would this be the equivalent of someone like Faroe Islands beating Germany in Football?
The odds would suggest so,But surely not?
Report wallygog September 19, 2015 9:38 PM BST
Rising Sun were 1000 / 1 before kick off. There was no price on South Africa.
Report TheVis September 19, 2015 9:40 PM BST
They were not 1000/1
Report roida September 19, 2015 9:48 PM BST
japan apparently matched at 400 pre game...bookies therefore must have been 1/100 sa?
Report marychain1 September 19, 2015 9:59 PM BST

Just before KO, there was nothing offered on SA, all the 1.01 had been hoovered up already. I can't remember what Japan were but they definitely traded at 400 (some 420) in-play.
