On November 13 we will be bringing you a trial which will remove the Premium Charge you’re normally asked to pay from a number of markets. Initially this offer will cover all football markets in the Spanish Primera División and all Rugby Union markets in all countries.

You can take advantage of this trial for three months on football, and until June for rugby. If the trial proves successful, you might well see it extended; in terms of the range of sports, the markets included, and the length of the offer.

You don't need to do anything to take part in this trial; you will have the Premium Charge automatically removed. If you would like your betting on these markets to continue to be included for the purposes of Premium Charge, please contact your account manager (or the help desk), and you will be opted out of the trial.

Full terms of this trial and some FAQs can be found below.

From General Betting

Terms of the trial

• All markets in the Spanish Primera División will be exempted from Premium Charge.

• All Rugby Union markets in all countries will be exempted from Premium Charge.

• The trial will apply to bets on markets in which all runners are fully settled between November 13 2013 and February 1 2014 for the football, and November 13 2013 until June 1 2014 for rugby.

• Winnings, losses, commission paid and commission generated on these markets during the trial will be removed entirely from your PC calculation.

• Activity on these markets from before the trial will continue to be included in your lifetime figures.

• Markets bet on during the trial will continue to contribute to your market count.

• If you would like to opt out of the trial, you may do so at any time in the trial and your exchange activity for the rest of the trial will be included in your Premium Charge calculation.

• Once opted out, you cannot opt back in to the trial and any betting activity before opting out will not be subsequently included in your Premium Charge calculation.

• You may opt out separately for Rugby Union and/or Primera División.

• Unfortunately, the trial is not open to customers registered in Australia or New Zealand.

• Betfair reserves the right to opt out any individual or end this trial at any time.

FAQs

Will charges or losses from Primera División / Rugby Union reduce my Premium Charge bill?

No, the activity will be removed entirely.

At the end of the trial, will any activity from these markets count be reinstated the lifetime position?

No, the activity, when removed, will never appear again in your Premium Charge statement.

Will this trial be extended to other sports / leagues?

We will be regularly reviewing the results and may decide to extend the trial or add in additional sports/leagues.

FAQs cont'd:

So I can now have a losing week on Betfair and still pay PC?

Err, yes. There's only one winner here, son. Now move along.

Brilliant, so this will only be of use to any PC player who bets exclusively on RU.

For any PC players who bet on many sports, they'll probably want to avoid RU now given what 1.01 says as you they could get in a situation where they pay PC now on a losing week as 1.01 says, so why bother taking the risk that your rugby betting goes the wrong way?

Net result likely to be less rugby liquidity Sad

I read it through a few times, came up with different conclusions, but probably err towards the idea that this would be brilliant news for me, if I didn't have a good buffer these days (I really, really hope that is eroded quickly!), but not a lot of use to any big punters who trade a lot of different sports.

Shame it wasn't in place for LDee on his big win on the RL......oh hang on scratch that, we are just talking about RU here.

Vis - You can "opt out", which is what I think I'm going to be forced to do.

So if multi-sport punters opt out, it leaves just rugby punters at an advantage, and they are already heavily involved in these markets anyway (and how many of these PC paying rugby-only punters are there? 2, at most?).

So what changes?

From what I was told, it seems BF knows precisely who they're trying to entice back and believe that this will enable them to achieve that.  Who we're talking about, I have no idea....

To tell you the truth Vis they've had nothing from me. I withdrew my bank before they could steel it from me. My account is negative now and thats the way it will stay. I've opened a Purple account and have had no trouble getting matched at my staking level.

as a multi-sport trader/book maker (not bookmaker!) and therefore a pc payer every week it should be worth a couple of hundred quid. i'll take it but unless it significantly changes liquidity it won't make a significant difference to how much i bet.

if you believe you will make a profit in the long term on union here why would you opt out?

There's no golden goose that there may have been when they first announced it, but I can't see the downside many do.

So long as you don't use RU to offset other sports, it seems a step forward at least.

I agree Moaner. If you're normally up over time, it makes sense not to opt out and take the rough with the smooth.

The only annoying aspect for me, is having a different pricing structure depending on what you're betting on. They've made an overcomplicated pricing system moreso.

Thanks for the update Ldee. You have also reminded me that I must have another look again at the other exchange for in-running just in case by some fluke the launch on Lads this week brings some life to their dire markets.

Has anyone looked at their Premium Charge portal this week? I haven't done the detailed math yet but it sure looks to me that my RU profits are included despite the auto opt in. Has anyone else seen this / something different?

Not that I've received the email, but it doesn't come into effect until today, supposedly.

and does not apply to NZ or Australian residents! This seems counter productive to me as rugby is a game that appeals esp to NZ and Aussie punters...

Was there any extra cash around on last night's Aviva?  There was a lot more in the international HCs last week, but it's not there today... and wasn't there last night...

Betfair
If the premium charge is fair- and if it affects as you claim- a very very small number of customers

why bother?

or

is this an admission that PC is unfair and / or more are charged it than you let on??????

I don't think "fair" has entered the equation here.  It's a simple case that since they introduced it, their revenues from union have dropped and they believed that removing the PC would stimulate the market.

I still don't think there was as much cash around (in general - there were exceptions) this week as there was last week.

I think much depends in these markets on whether the football god is playing or not and last weekend was a funny one given the internationals that were played whereas this week as back to the standard premier league stuff.
