i don't quite get why it is at the RDS. After topping the league it seems a little unfair on Ulster to be playing at the oppositions home ground
Ravenhill is not available due to its reduced capacity caused by its redevelopment. Ulster were asked to nominate an alternative "home" venue and a bit like the turkeys voting for Christmas nominated the RDS. A surprising choice in that Leinster were at the time the decision was made likely final opponents.
In fairness there were no other suitable rugby venues in Ulster but I am surprised that Ulster did not approach the GAA with a view to playing the game at the likes of CASEMENT PARK. When Lansdowne Rd was been redeveloped into the Aviva the IRFU asked for and were granted permission to play in Croke Park.
If they have to concede home advantage why not the Aviva . Surely an Ulster- Leinster final would pull in 30,000 plus . The Irish soccer team play a friendly there on June 2nd so availability is not an issue. Financially it doesn't make sense and certainly Leinster's displays in the horse ring would strike fear in any side.

idiotic decision by ulster on the face of it. all i can think is that having looked into it they could not find a suitable alternative otherwise they surely would have.
As yummy says , Casement Park with a capacity of 30,000 comfortably , would have been a sensible choice by Ulster , if it was available as the Ulster GAA championship starts this weekend . However , given the history of Northern Ireland , doubt the wisdom of the consideration proposed , both "sides" have lots of backwoodsmen aboard .
Incidents like this also emphasise the folly that is in it in not building a "national "stadium to accomodate soccer , rugby , GAA etc as needed at the Maze , instead of an "historical museum " to the "Troubles " , if that ever happens . Windsor Park used not be a dump , have been there with 58,000 others ( mostly standing ) watching NI playing England , 1958 . Was never as good a pitch as Celtic Park ( of greyhound fame , first greyhound track in Ireland ) which is now a shopping centre .
Spent every Saturday up to the age of 11 ( from age 7 probably ) at Ravenhill watching local teams . Nice location Ravenhill , unlike Windsor , which suffers from its approaches .
Ravenhill has been redeveloped , will accomodate 16,000 plus and now has stands on most sides / end of the ground . OK for club / province games , loses out though for bigger crowds . The rugby people are doing a good job in my book , and reaping the rewards with good attendances and interest and performance .
Casement Park was effectively my "home ground " when I played a lot of GAA , trained on it twice a week and played matches on it every other week . Good pitch , well situated now with road developments , was tucked away in West Belfast when I frequented it .
The clever people in the GAA have built on the development of Casement to the stage where it is , and will be , a first class stadium , with a playing surface in excess of 170 yards by 100 yards , accomodating up to 40,000 which is adequate for any "local " needs . Lots of that has been funded by the GAA , government grants have now come aboard and helped -- possible pay back for the fact that the British Army "commandered " the ground for years and it became near derelict .
Contrast that with the mess that is local soccer here , begging bowl out at every opportunity , nearly every soccer club on its knees , administrators etc . Capacity at Windsor is now down to 15,000 , and there are continual arguments about who gets what and who pays for what etc , how much Linfield get out of it ( it is their home ground plus the "international " venue) .Tiresome stuff .
Cant ever see anything approacing a "national stadium " ( for a province ! ) accomodating liquorice allsorts of sport here in NI , pipe dream . A dictator with absolute power would have built one on the site of Long Kesh / The Maze prison site , currently the subject of arguments about the "historical museum " being proposed for it , well located , motorway access , not clogging up Belfast as do Windsor , Ravenhill , Casement on match days to a certain extent .
Casement deserves to get Ulster finals in GAA , although VAT is a stumbling block I was told . Clones is a small town in Monaghan with no infrastructure accomodating 30,000 plus , albeit over the years we all have had great days there ( played there once in front of 40,000 myself , 1958 I think ) , great atmosphere if you have plenty of time to spare . Not sure of the internal GAA politics at present though .

Clones is a grand venue but lets be fair. The town cannot accomadate 30k very well. Its not serviced by public transport so only people driving or on private buses can get to teh game which cuts down some attendance. I'd love to see the final in Belfast with the vibrant colours of GAA jerseys populating the city centre like DUblin on a big match day(only if they're safe of course and there is no threat from narrow minded loyalist)

PS with the talk of GAA cooperating with IRFU for RWC 2023, it would make great sense for Ulster to try and do a Leinster-Play at Ravenhill throughout the season but when demand exceeds tickets move a Heineken Cup game/Rabo final to Casement

Ulster need to send a representative into the refs room at HT to read his mind . Otherwise the penalty count will mount and Leinster will win easily . Leinster have had the rub of the green so far .

I dont like to knock a ref BUT..... if i was an Ulster fan I'd be crying into me beer most of the night, dinny really get the rub at all & slightly ul to come away with the loss, good game mind despite.
Ulster could argue they were denied two penalty tries , Diack messed up a clear try , Leinster were a bit disappointing , never got any impression that their backs were capable of scoring a try through skilful means . And arguably Leinster are the second best side in Europe . Not sure where that leaves rugby when you get 2 evenly matched sides .
i thought ulster were hard done by. that pen just before ht should have been the other way as a player was tackled off the ball.
forum logic has always said that in a tight game home advantage is worth about 6ts so go figure.
why they played at the RDS will remain a mystery to me forever. i can only assume there was no alternative although that is difficult to believe
