Rolland is much worse than a complete guesser.
Report RugbyMan April 28, 2013 3:19 PM BST
Rolland will need a replacement whistle at half time.
Report curious-cat April 28, 2013 3:22 PM BST
one handed knock on is usually a pen
Report Kriskin April 28, 2013 3:23 PM BST
Why was this match played at Twickenham?  No ATMOSPHERE at all.
Report RugbyMan April 28, 2013 3:23 PM BST
Usually, but no consistency. Go with one hand, but expect to catch it apparently.
Report TheVis April 28, 2013 3:23 PM BST
Lucky not to get carded there.  If you do go for it and feck up you have to expect the worst
Report curious-cat April 28, 2013 3:24 PM BST
First time I've not seen it given as a pen.

justice in the end though.
Report RugbyMan April 28, 2013 3:24 PM BST
Dan Cole got binned in the QF for sticking a hand out. Palisson knocks it upwards a bit and gets away with it entirely on that basis I think.

isnt sarries new pitch artificial? are u allowed to play heineken cup on artificial surfaces?

Report curious-cat April 28, 2013 3:26 PM BST
I didn't see anyone off their feet then.
Report RugbyMan April 28, 2013 3:26 PM BST
It's very small as well. 10,000 at Barnet, or 50,000 at Twickers?
Report TheVis April 28, 2013 3:27 PM BST
you are not allowed a semi on your home ground + pretty sure their ground is under capacity as well
Report GRANTCKING April 28, 2013 3:27 PM BST
good shout vis
Report TheVis April 28, 2013 3:28 PM BST
well no try man has it spot on so far
Report Kriskin April 28, 2013 3:28 PM BST
There's NO 50k there today.  Stadium is no more than 25 - 30% filled
Report TheVis April 28, 2013 3:29 PM BST
that didn't look straight - other than straight to the sarries player

yep this game is almost identical to last game against ulster, nobody anywhere near scoring a try

Report RugbyMan April 28, 2013 3:30 PM BST
I imagine it's quite difficult to know the exact number of people who will turn up to a match a month in advance.
Report TheVis April 28, 2013 3:32 PM BST
won't be too many french there either with an expensive trip to Dublin to consider for the final
Report TheVis April 28, 2013 3:32 PM BST
let's have another pen then rolland
Report Kriskin April 28, 2013 3:33 PM BST
RM - I'm not disputing that their home stadium is too small but another smaller venue than twickenham would have suited the team much better.  Playing at Twickers is suiting Toulon more.  A BIG mistake by Sarries if they are interested in winning the Cup
Report RugbyMan April 28, 2013 3:36 PM BST
Roussouw just clangs into Ashton in the air, clear yellow card, but Rolland is looking at something in the crowd. No doubt who he has favoured so far.
Report TheVis April 28, 2013 3:38 PM BST
no messing with the kicks today but I guess we never expected much else
Report RugbyMan April 28, 2013 3:38 PM BST
place kicking has been superb so far.
Report RugbyMan April 28, 2013 3:41 PM BST
Getting an overlap and making 15 yards isn't enough advantage for a knock on now.
Report RugbyMan April 28, 2013 3:42 PM BST
but one yard will be later in the game.
Report Monstrous Bryan April 28, 2013 3:42 PM BST
Brown didn't look on his feet there, should have been pen Toulon
Report TheVis April 28, 2013 3:43 PM BST
be nice is this goes - should just about have the length
Report TheVis April 28, 2013 3:43 PM BST
don't jinx it barnes
Report TheVis April 28, 2013 3:44 PM BST
dammit
Report RugbyMan April 28, 2013 3:47 PM BST
Just that one miss and it was a long way out. Shame really, 12-12 would have made sense bearing in mind how the game has panned out. Both teams one bounce of the ball away from a try, but offering little else bar Rolland's infernal pweeping.
Report stewardsenquirey April 28, 2013 3:54 PM BST
Sarries been awful imo.
I thought the game would have won at the breakdown, but Sarracens sending in about 2 men max Confused
I dislike Flashton, but I do anything to see one of his flying dives currently.
Report Kelly April 28, 2013 3:56 PM BST
Any idea on attendance today ?  Twickers looks half empty ( or full ) .
Report RugbyMan April 28, 2013 4:03 PM BST
Wtf Rolland? How clear do Toulon knock-ons and forward passes have to be?
Report TheVis April 28, 2013 4:03 PM BST
maybe 30 or 40k - difficult to judge
Report curious-cat April 28, 2013 4:03 PM BST
Farrell is usless in play.
Report TheVis April 28, 2013 4:03 PM BST
actually could be a lot less - is the top tier even open?
Report RugbyMan April 28, 2013 4:04 PM BST
Going back to knock-on advantages after drop goal attempts????????

No referee does that bar Rolland.
Report Monstrous Bryan April 28, 2013 4:04 PM BST
Half the crowd saw that knock-on
Report leroyb April 28, 2013 4:04 PM BST
surely drop goal attempt is knock on adv over????
Report RugbyMan April 28, 2013 4:05 PM BST
I really just want to grab Rolland by the collar and just say to him to watch other referees and get your head out of your own arse. Kicking the ball away is advantage over with every ref in the world. But he knows different.
Report GRANTCKING April 28, 2013 4:05 PM BST
looks more like around 15,000
Report Monstrous Bryan April 28, 2013 4:05 PM BST

Report curious-cat April 28, 2013 4:07 PM BST
ONE VOTE WOULD HAVE SWUNG IT - ROLLAND'S
Report RugbyMan April 28, 2013 4:08 PM BST
He should get help though from the touchline as well. How two officials cant see a knock-on that obvious is baffling.
Report GRANTCKING April 28, 2013 4:09 PM BST
huge 10mins now for sarries
Report RugbyMan April 28, 2013 4:10 PM BST
Well, he missed the first clear yellow, but gets one that is entirely dubious. Classic Rolland
Report stewardsenquirey April 28, 2013 4:10 PM BST
Yellow card ?
Rolland is a Joke Ref
Report Monstrous Bryan April 28, 2013 4:11 PM BST
Wan't it his second high tackle of the game though? Surely that will hold weight in the ref's mind
Report stewardsenquirey April 28, 2013 4:11 PM BST
Rolland makes any game he refs basically impossible to bet on.Law unto himself.

Report TheVis April 28, 2013 4:14 PM BST
OMG on the replay it is even worse - three sets of hands could have been used
Report RugbyMan April 28, 2013 4:14 PM BST
Stevens carrying it in was the first blunder, but Farrell's pass was horrible.

Great break by Vunipola though, good pace for a fatty.
Report Isotonic. April 28, 2013 4:16 PM BST
No exaggeration but that has to be one of the worst passes i have seen at such a crucial stage. Toulon big price now. Farrell been terrible bar kicking today
Report Isotonic. April 28, 2013 4:19 PM BST
Rollands varying definitions of advantage over is so frustrating. Allowing Toulon drop goal attempts and breaks before recalling them. Sarries one phase and advantage over. PS BArnes is a clown

Report GRANTCKING April 28, 2013 4:20 PM BST

Report Monstrous Bryan April 28, 2013 4:21 PM BST
Sarries been practising left to right all week?
Report RugbyMan April 28, 2013 4:21 PM BST
You are right Iso, I said when he allowed Toulon a massive advantage on the first one that another one would be just a yard later on. No surprise that Sarries get no help at all. That's 9pts turnaround from Rolland's farcical advantages in this match.
Report stewardsenquirey April 28, 2013 4:22 PM BST
I hoped Sarries couldn't be any worse than the 1st half, sadly I was wrong Cry

Report TheVis April 28, 2013 4:32 PM BST
Sarries have been awful today.  HOpefully Clermont will fire into the final as it could be a dire affair if ends in a grind

Report stewardsenquirey April 28, 2013 4:46 PM BST
As much as I'd like to blame Rolland,I can't.
Sarries just not been good enough.
Report RugbyMan April 28, 2013 4:47 PM BST
Sarries defeated by a French team who can afford more muscle up-front again. They just can't find a way around teams if they can't strangle them up front, and Clermont and Toulon are not teams you can beat up front
Report RugbyMan April 28, 2013 4:48 PM BST
I certainly think Rolland has been a shambles as usual stewards, but the right team is going through.

At what point did Bastereuad release there? Another Rolland decision where he just cant wait to give Toulon a pen.
Report TheVis April 28, 2013 4:49 PM BST
No try man got it spot on.  Not much of a sniff all game really Sad
Report stewardsenquirey April 28, 2013 4:50 PM BST
Yeah, agree he was cr@p again, but he wasn't the reason Sarries got beat.
They just weren't good enough Sad
Report DancingBraveTheBest April 28, 2013 4:51 PM BST
isnt rolland's father French? i may be mistaken.
Report RugbyMan April 28, 2013 4:51 PM BST
Game ends with a deliberate knock-on that Rolland gives as a scrum. Every other ref gives a pen, maybe a yellow. You dont try to catch the ball by doing a star jump into the oppositions line.
Report Santry April 28, 2013 4:58 PM BST
Rolland is a ref that wants to be bigger than the teams. To him the game is all about him. Should not be given matches at this level as it plays to his massive ego.
Report tommo0001 April 28, 2013 5:02 PM BST
much as the ref loves his whistle saracens beat themselves, they needed to be spitting fire today, what we saw was a pretty terrible effort tbh, take nothing away from toulon but they must have been expecting a tougher battle than that
Report Kriskin April 28, 2013 5:03 PM BST
Saracens were BRUTAL throughout the whole 80 mins.  NEVER deserved anything from the game
Report Monstrous Bryan April 28, 2013 5:19 PM BST
Anyone think the game will actually have any bearing on Gatland's decision? Sky were hyping it up but you get the feeling that was more for the live coverage of the announcement on Tuesday
Report stewardsenquirey April 28, 2013 5:26 PM BST
As much as I like Wilkinson,I really don't think he should be picked. He pretty much admitted in his interview after he doesn't feel he deserves to go.
He proved today he can still the job,but need to blood the youngsters imo.
Report RugbyMan April 28, 2013 5:27 PM BST
They've been talking about the Lions regarding every pass, kick, stumble, fumble, run and anything else non-stop for the past 5 months. I don't think Gatland will be looking at one game and thinking, blimey, he's had a shocker, I wont be taking him. Partly that is because I would imagine he considers it more important to play well for 7 games to get to a semi-final than to have one poor game when you get there. Partly you would hope because it's because he already knows his squad and wont be making it up from scratch on Monday morning.
