The shortlist of names represents the 12 players who have been awarded “RBS Man of the Match” decided by the host broadcasters from the first four Rounds of the 2012 RBS 6 Nations Championship.
The vote will run from Monday 12th March until Midnight on Sunday 18th March, at which point the player with the highest number of votes will be chosen as the RBS Player of the Championship.
This player will be presented with the official RBS Player of the Championship trophy at the first possible opportunity, and the result announced on www.rbs6nations.com on Wednesday 21st
March.

Of that list would narrow it down to Denton, Rennie and Parisse. Would probably vote for Parisse, the greatest no. 8 to ever play the game imo.
Ideally that list would include Ferris and Kearney based on their performances to date this Championship.

If the short list is going to be that long, there's a few who can feel hard done by not to be on it, Ferris in particular, but as you say, a list of one is all that is needed.
Best evers are always hard to judge. Great player though he was, I always thought Zinzan was a bit of an overrated show pony, the only player I can think of to compete with Sergio for the crown of best 8 ever is far from a show pony - Buck - frightening how similar their games are / were.
What a crying shame Sergio didn't have a grandmother from an off island. Then we could be talking about best ever player IMO!

Seems a strange way to decide player of the champs as there is no reward for consistency. All you need to do is have one good game - or hoodwink the host broadcaster - and you are in the hat.
Look at Fofana - over the line in every game and would be on my shortlist for sure. But there is no place for players like that.

Fofana has been superb a lot better then Malzieu who scored a few counter attacking tries against the Italians and not much more.
Ferris, Sexton and Kearney have been Irelands three best and only one of them on the list.

+ how did harry the donkey get MOM v Eng? I wasn't watching the whole match whilst betting but read on here he had a mare at times.
It's such a fickle way to award man of the championships. Much better to have a panel scoring each player out of 10 for each game and then giving us a short list of the 5 most consistent to vote on at the end of the tournie.

It is a very strange way to do things. Donnacha Ryan has played 1 game - 1 very good game, but how does that qualify you as a candidate for the championship? The qualification procedure is highly biased with home broadcasters picking MoMs.
I thought Harinordiquy played well against England, but he ended up on the losing side partly because of his missed tackle on Croft. A very dubious pick, but French broadcasters are hardly going to pick an Englishman are they? England have 3 away wins, but no MoM picks.
There must be a better way, surely?

Gethin Jenkins could be added to the list of players who dont figure despite good performances. Keeps doing his job to a very high level, even though he may have lost a yard of pace these days.
Very hard to pick a winner isn't it? Two players that have stood out to me - Warburton and Tuilagi - have missed half the comp. Parisse has been very good as usual, but I'm not convinced he has been outstanding. Denton and Rennie have both performed well throughout.

Very bold call to say Parisse is the greatest 8 ever. He stands out because he plays in a sea of sh!t most of the time. I've seen him have plenty of medicore games for Stade and I don't think he's had a particularly impressive championship either. Denton has been far and away the stand-out No 8.
Leaving Ferris and Fofana off that list beggars belief and there were widespread calls for Harinordoquy to be dropped in France before the England match due to his poor form. Tommy Bowe hasn't been particularly impressive, but he is top tournament try scorer and should be given some recognition with at least a spot on the short list.

its a catch phrase, a media soundbite that keeps the 6 nations and the sponsor in the news and gets a bit of discussion going, id imagine that the players take the "accolade" with a pinch of salt.

Fofana was who I thought of too once I saw the thread title, he's impressed in every game.
ballaman - that was somewhat on purpose, highlighting a lack of pace that brings him back to the levels of normal props. We dont see him hunting down wingers any more, but in some ways he may have become a better player for it. Wales have had forwards who all like to think they are back-rows or even backs for a long time and it has often been their downfall. Not this year.

Funny you should mention that RM, i was chatting to a mate this week about players not doing their jobs and instead would hang out of rucks and try to get their hands on the ball at every occasion.
to the casual observer it lokked as if brendan had a great game, he would take the ball at the ruck and trundle off for a few yards and recycle and he would pop up in midfield for a crash ball, problem was brendan was a prop and not a number 8, so in effect he wasnt doing his job of clearing rucks and slowing down ball.
players like that are very annoying!

I agree Fofana and Kearney should be in.Of that list I would pick Parisse or Denton
