England 8/13
Ireland 6/4

Both teams playing well , Ireland without O'Connell, Murray and O'Brien.
England on the up and boosted by an excellent victory in France.
St Patricks day against the Auld enemy

Will be a very interesting game tactically ! Roll on St. Patricks Day !!!

If France beat Wales, England could win the tournament if they overturn a 38 point deficit to Wales on the outright table (assuming I understand correctly).  Wouldn't it be wise to await the outcome of that match before taking a view on this one?

Ireland have scored a massive 112 points in the 6 nations so far
England have scored 68 points so far
Factor in home advantage - there wont the much in it , a couple of pints either way I'd say Cool

The difference in points difference can be easily accounted for - it's the difference between playing Italy away in Arctic conditions versus playing them at home. Points difference would have been the other way around at this point last season following England's home blow out and Ireland's late away win both against Italy.

Ireland have played Scotland and Italy @ home. England have only played the champions elect at home. On current form you would expect a comfortable win for England but Ireland do seems to manage their one good game of the 6N v England.

Hard to believe that any Pro Punter would back England at 8/11 to beat Ireland.

For some people it's hard to believe that England could have won any of their games, and yet.....

Fine margins should decide this one, so it might be time for me to dust off the 1-10 winning margins. I don't see this England team being as susceptible to any hint of running rugby by the opposition, so shouldn't get into a mess straight away. Shame for England that the Irish have kept Ross and Healey fit all comp though as they are much harder to attack with their two best props holding up the scrum.

Tuilagi vs Earls is my main concern

England are now picking players, and prob more importantly, dropping others that some of us have been banging on about for ages
-look at the difference when England had to sub the half backs in the Welsh game
-Easter wouldnt have set up Fodens try would he?, and Morgan gradually looks to be finding his feet at this level and imo is a right player
-the second rows have grunt
-Cole to me is having an excellent tourney although barely mentioned in the media
-ditto Barritt
-Farrell is superb for a 20year old in a key position ( and what a tackle)
-the back row remains an area of concern (balance wise) but is solid

icbd agree about Tuilagi he is a handful for anyone let alone Earls/Darcy-who didnt look comfortable with the big Welsh backs running at him either could have a long afternoon

I think it is going to be a good game, with not much between both teams, personally from a betting perspective I feel home advantage gives England a slight edge but it is only slight, and imo not as much as the betting suggests

^ Earls didn't play against Wales. But Tuilagi has a good fend, Earls will need to chop him low and the Irish defence needs to quick off the mark like against the French.

yes i know, meant Darcy only as regards Welsh backs

some people esp on here still not prepared to give any credit to England despite 3 away wins and a good showing against Wales
By:

Darcy was shambolic in defence against Wales, has improved lately.

I've no problem giving them credit as 3 away wins is impressive.

Ireland have won seven of the previous eight meetings in the Six Nations, would any other country than England be favourites for this match ?

I don't know what all the fuss is about.  England aren't even being rated the best team here.

Also over the last few years some very good Irish sides have beaten some very average English ones.  Things might just be a bit different this year, but at 6/4 Ireland are being given a lot of respect.
By:

When: 15 Mar 12 17:00
If anything the odds suggest that Ireland are a slightly better team. Hard one to judge really, history is on Ireland's side, but history is based on a different English and different Irish side. No O'Connell or O'Driscoll this time, whereas England have some actual threats in midfield, which has to tip things their way.

In theory Ireland's back-row should be better, but England's back-row has achieved more than was expected and their lack of a genuine openside is no different to Ireland's in that respect.

Certainly any advantage Ireland have there is wiped out in the centres where D'Arcy and Earls have big worries facing Tuilagi. As for the back-threes, Ireland have a more effective attacking unit but some of their defending and positioning has been very suspect. Chris Ashton could be a real weak link for England though as he appears to have fallen in love with his own legend.

I see very little in this on paper, but home advantage is always tough to overcome. A 3pt lead for England going into the last 5 minutes will do me......

I dont think that theres much between them, i firmly believe that Ireland have been flattered in their wins against two very poor teams, Italy without a kicker of any sorts and scotland who were just shi te, they threw away a win that was handed to them on a first half plate.

8/11 might be a bit skinny, but i think that home advantage will see them home.
