Not the governments fault, giving they are borrowing goodo (so are most) it is a brucie bonus and they could have made some token effort though Trump said the war will be over eeeemmm soon a good few times.

If they weren't getting that tax take on the petrol they would be getting it somewhere else, the few crumbs given probably paid by that.

The real ongoing tax robbery is the ongoing tax threshold freeze.

Basic rate £12,500, 40% rate £50,000

Frozen in 2021, 5 years in and it's already costing most workers over £3,000 per year, and that's increasing every year.

On the flip side, ASDA shuffled some papers, filled in a couple of forms and now won't pay any corporation tax for at least 25 years.

So they can make a big deal of keeping the 5p duty cut that is in place til the end of the year.

Business claims back vat anyway

Fuel duty not going up offset by increased vat that punters don't claim back.

Seems fair enough,... Get a leccie car and
solar panels and a battery,.. Save yer own tax.

Bang on Escapee. It is hidden austerity,i am surprised by the resilience of the economy generally but some struggling badly.

Where is the direction heading? The facebook fringe economy with 'beauty'gardens, 'odd jobs' and another portion ousted out of lets call it menial work like call/help centres through AI,jaysus it looks bleak to me.

AI likely destroys more jobs, got to feel for those youngsters who would have scooped an office job in our day.

Good job there's loads of oldies got cash to pay gardeners and house keepers...

Fair play,a more positive outlook than me.
Agree it is the 'older' boomers so to speak holding the cash and tbf the younger people mostly keeping hospitality going but petrol,gas/leccy,food inflation, service inflation squeezing (imo) an awful lot to watch it.
The haves and have nots are getting more marginalised would be my gut feeling and not sure what that will lead to.

Don't think that is correct Escapee. The allowance itself would have only now increased by approx £3k and therefore on that basis about £600 tax would have been saved this year.

You're right Dixie

AI Overview

The ongoing freeze on UK personal tax thresholds is costing the average worker approximately £730 to £800 extra per year.

Have you got the Heat Pump for the Full house Donnie ?

How does knocking 20 p off a Litre Cost them anything ?
By:

its 60 p Dearer they are getting 30 P more , still plus 10 P
By:

When: 27 Oct 26 00:37
If its 60p more per litre then that's 50p + 10p vat

Business claims vat back, so about 70% of diesel and 15% of petrol sales realise no vat to Government.

Don’t worry Healy is reported to be cutting tariffs on gherkins and boiled sweets to bring down living costs.

So often when you read a news report about these clowns in government you need to cross check it just to make sure it’s not some sort of parody article.
