Young person: Why should I go to university?

Old person: You need to think of your future and work hard to secure it.

Young person goes to University, gets educated and learns that their future is not secure because of politicians, so starts protesting for change to make their future secure.

Old Person: No! Not like that.

Bolsanaro Jr is in a very tricky spot now because the cheating to help Lula appears to be so blatantly obvious he will have no choice but to contest it, and we all know what happens to people who complain about lefties cheating in elections - straight to the slammer on BS charges.

OMG I didn't know!

Who are the Communists you speak of... China? Russia? North Korea?

Or are they western billionaires pretending to be capitalists but are really communists?

The Serbia election result could give us a bit of fun going forward.

A rag bag of non politicians cobbled together and expected to run a country. What could possibly go wrong Laugh

lapsy - as those newly elected MP's in Serbia are completely new to the game, how do you know they are or will be "competent" ?

I was hoping for confirmation re botoxing tbh Dixie, some 'pout' on the man.

Accountability and corruption as well as being endorsed by Putin seems to be the reason he lost. Surely the new crowd got in as that isn't what they want?

I am not saying there's anything dodgy going on in the latest Brazilian election I said it appears to be. That's how it will look to the voters, and they will expect Escapee Bolsanaro to contest.

Personally I don't think there's anything suspicious about it at all apart from it's the first time a candidate won the first round but went on to lose the runoff, and it is the first time there was a nationwide extension of election hours, which needless to say helped Lula at the last minute, and it is the first time a supreme court judge (Lulas ex personal lawyer) bypassed the specialized panel of the Superior Electoral Court to order the extension. Apart from that it looks completely not **** and is probably the fairest election since the one in US in 2020 which voters overwhelmingly believe the Democrats ****.

They got in via a massive protest vote on the back of a manifesto full of students promises lapsy and now it has to be enacted by a motley crew who have no real experience.

As i said, it will be fun to see how it plays out.

You have a point Dixie,i suppose you could worry re the UK with Reform as that is nearly the same scenario.
By:
DixieDean60
When: 26 Oct 26 17:39
Well i was going to draw that comparison as well lapsy, it has been a criticism thrown at Reform by others but they do of course have a good number of candidates with political experience, even if only at local level. We will only know how good or bad they will be if they actually get in power.

Why would non politicians be worse at running a country than politicians?

Surely the civil service give advice and tell the politicians what happens if they go down certain policy routes.

All politicians are non politicians before
they are politicians.

Plenty of folk could do a good job of running UK, for instance, that are not politicians.

Career politicians looking to feather own nest are ones to be avoided.

I've no idea about these guys elected in Serbia, but I don't discount the idea that they could do a decent job simply because they are not politicians.

Prominent Student List figures include: Ilija Srdanović, a cardiologist who headed the candidate list; Dejan Šoškić, a former central bank governor; and Radomir Saičić, a chemistry professor at Belgrade University who spoke on behalf ‌of the List after its victory.

Much like Péter Magyar’s Tisza party, which ended Viktor Orbán’s 16 years of illiberal government in Hungary this spring, the List faces public institutions staffed with civil servants loyal to the outgoing regime, complicating the task of institutional overhaul.

“Everyone in the student movement, and every candidate on the list, has a complete and very clear understanding of the weight of the responsibility before us,” said Ana Mirković, a university educationist, psychologist and Student List candidate.

The students’ platform centres on a pledge to fight corruption and restore the rule of law, including creating an independent police unit accountable to prosecutors, not the interior ministry, and a purge of police officers linked to organised crime.

It also aims to ban appointments of party loyalists to state-owned companies and to promote financial accountability and public scrutiny – by new independent bodies – of all major state infrastructure contracts to curb the misuse of public funds.

I would have thought this "student" group, obviously popular (because the got the most votes), On a ticket to end corruption and drain the swamp would have been HUGELY CONGRATULATED by reform supporters on here.

why?

I thought reform stood on a popular ticket of "to end corruption and drain the swamp"?

it's the same ticket, it won, why aren't reform supporters jumping for joy and congratulations, in hope they can do the same on the same ticket?
