Now that rogue states have highlighted just how vulnerable Western countries are to disruptions to petrol and diesel supplies, should the UK turbocharge the construction of solar and wind farms?

And should we all be switching to electric cars?

Tories selling off all our gas storage (From 9 months down to less than 2 weeks) has left UK without any energy security at all.

If they knock out our energy grid I wouldnt
want an electric car.

Maybe solar panels and battery storage,...

Internet could go down too, need some form
of UK intranet.

A good grid takes a lot of knocking out.

The UK like most countries has a hodgepodge of a grid which has evolved over the last century.

A good read... https://x.company/projects/tapestry/

It’s a pity no clever leader in80s knew difference between renewables and non renewable and planned for future, in fairness why would they ? They obviously have to deal with present issues.

In the 80's all investment in UK renewables was controlled by the Nuclear power quango, and thus investment in renewables was thwarted lest it become more attactive than nuclear power.

It’s difficult for a leader to be proactive because he’s obviously has to deal with current issues and he obviously might not be there in 4 years time and replacement may scrap the right way forward.
It’s like a football manager he may think best way forward is to invest money in academy for the club’s future players but other interested parties like owners and fans may be of the opinion get a striker, goalkeeper in to prevent relegation or achieve promotion, so what the f does he do ? Bins the project to address current issues.
