Very interesting, alun. It seems we pay a very high price for our often lauded diverse and 'vibrant' areas.

Groundbreaking data showing that poorer areas have more benefit claimants. I compared Brent (34% white) to Middlesboro (82% white). Middlesboro chosen as perhaps it has the largest white population in run down conurbations. Brent because it's in the top 10, I used to live there long ago and remembered the postcode. Actually a higher percentage of claimants in Middlesboro than Brent. You'd have to spend a long time deep diving the figures to draw any meaningful conclusions. Obviously ethnic people claim more working age related benefits because they are poorer on average than white people.
If you are claiming housing benefit and universal credit why would the state pay to house them in more expensive affluent areas, and why would the residents of those areas accept it? |

Blackppol is 94.7% white. Blackpool has the lowest healthy life expectancy at birth for males in England, sitting at just 50.9 years. 23 years unhealthy so a bigger burden on the NHS, but a smaller burden on pensions.
|
|
By:
The life expectancy at birth for Black African men in England and Wales is approximately 83.8 years. That's 4 years higher than white men, and despite living in greater poverty. Didn't expect that!
Perhaps that's why Blackpool is worst in the country. |
|
By:
Indian males in UK is 82 years. 3 years more receiving a pension. 19 years on average compared to 16. 19% more
|
|
By:
correction 15 years compared to 12. So 25% more in pension payments
|
|
By:
You'd have to allow for addictions. Blackpool wil have plenty
of smackheads, crackheads and alcoholics. |
|
By:
Indeed. Lifestyle choices a big factor
|
|
By:
Life expectancy gets more bizarre the more I look at it. White Americans live 4.4 years longer than black Americans, yet white Britons have a significantly lower life expectancy than black Britons.

Lifestyle choices a big factor
Indeed, there are many choosing to live a life in virtual separation from Traditional Britain, not even bothering to learn the language, not bothering to seek employment or contribute anything to the country. Simply choosing to live on the benefits insanely provided to them and use the NHS when they inevitably conceive Anchor Babies. |
|

Also bizarrely "healthy life expectancy" is much higher in the USA, but life expectancy is much lower. And the cost of US healthcare is 3 times higher, so that means when you do get ill the treatment is even worse value than it seems.
Alternatively, definitions of healthy, and adjustments for immigration and emigration, are skewing the statistics |
|
By:
Huge amount of fatties in the US, that will add to healthcare costs.
We are going the same way, unfortunately. |
|
By:
Who wants to live a bit longer just so someone can feed you, wipe your arse and tell you what day it is anyway. Certainly not me.

By:
Quality of life is palpably far more critical than the length of it.

Tottenham the number 1 has some crazy numbers , £4730 benefits per resident , over half the households are on UC , 38% of pip is for psychiatric conditions .

Personally I'd say it's virtually impossible to compare different countries in that way. It's factual that the UK has recently imported vast numbers of people with different genetics. That's bound to have a tangible impact on the statistics. And the baseline is not going to be the same for the US and the UK. Medicalisation equals benefits, ssp etc in the UK, and since nobody has to pay any money at all to get medicalised, the incentives are there with no consequences for fabricated issues. For supposed patients and medics. In the states it's most likely to be a much more varied picture where benefits are not a career option but healthcare is much more of an industry eg advertising and prescription medication.

random stat, 10% of nurses working in Australia are from the UK.

Interesting take there. Agree with the gist of it. |

When was the last time that the UK didn't have a centrist or left wing government ?
|

By:
Australia largely has a functioning state, with functioning borders. And doesn't have as a free for all healthcare system.
It's not all good obviously as they went nuts over covid. But they do have state capacity and competence. |
|
By:
Lets try again ...
Australia generally leans toward the centre, with a pragmatic electorate that often values strong public services and government intervention, aligning it slightly more with centre-left economic and social norms Compulsory voting and preferential alternative voting in Australia keep mainstream parties anchored near the political centre |

The Moderator(s) seemingly don't want any forumites to see the cost of State Benefits paid across UK postcodes.
My opening post was deleted swiftly , plus my subsequent advice as to where the Taxpayers Alliance report and database can be found. Public Spending is something that affects every one of us and is just about the hottest of political potatoes at present. But clearly the revelations in the Taxpayers Alliance report have embarrassed someone. A quite incredible state of affairs. Pray for them. |

By:
I don't get the point at all, the UK has had centre left political leadership since the 1990s. I'll give you maybe 40 days of Truss as an exception, but she was spat out before she could do anything. It's the operational government that has been, and is failing.

Privatisation happened under Thatcher, obviously. I'm referencing from the late 1990's, ie noo labour on.
Importing foreigners who aren't working is very much left wing. Yes, the Tories since the coalition are centre left. What examples are you citing of them following through on a policy that wasn't. Not Brexit of course as they campaigned to stay in the EU. Supporting war is not straight forward to pinpoint in political terms. Barnham is still supporting funding the Ukraine in the proxy war, where are you placing him on the political spectrum? |
|
By:
The last conservative government was far left for policy.

post-Maggie, the two main parties, (aka the uniparty), have offered communism now, or socialism now as a stepping stone to globalist communism soon. Much the same throughout most of the suicidally empathetic West

It's not in the top 30 for benefits spending. Housing will be cheap though. Doubt many people live there by choice
