I'm an enthusiastic supporter of Andy Burnham, a shining new light for the country !

However, it's starting to look as if Andy is enmeshed heavily with the owners of Man City FC.

These are :

Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak[1] (Arabic: خلدون المبارك; born 27 January 1976)[2][3][4] is an Emirati government official and business leader. Al Mubarak holds senior positions within the Government of Abu Dhabi, including as a member of the Executive Council since 2006, a member of the Supreme Council for Financial and Economic Affairs, and as the founding chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority.[5] He fulfills responsibilities for the UAE Federal government and has served as Presidential Special Envoy to the People's Republic of China since 2018.

Al Mubarak is chief executive officer and managing director of Mubadala Investment Company. He is chairman of the football clubs Manchester City, Melbourne City and founding chairman of City Football Group. Al Mubarak is on the board of the UAE business ADNOC and serves as the Chairman of the Boards of the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank and Emirates Global Aluminium.[6]

I hope that Andy has not taken any inducements from these very wealthy individuals and entities.

He seems to be defending their machinations at the moment, maybe he has no choice ?

You can bet that the Daily Mail and the Telegraph will be digging furiously as I type !

Fingers crossed....let's hope he is clean or we will lose a great Prime Minister in the making !

These foreign billionaires making out like they invest money in UK as a charitable act.
NO NO NO, they invest in UK because they can make even more billions from their investment in the UK.

Burnhams job as mayor of manchester was to bring investment to the area, so ofcourse he has to mix with and pitch too these billionaires. But these investments are all about the bottom line.

What a bunch of counts, making big bucks and trying to buy thier way round the law.

LABOUR politicians have received nearly £300,000 of freebies from the UAE and its under-fire football giant Manchester City, a Sun probe reveals.

They include VIP tickets for deputy leader Lucy Powell to watch the Gulf state-backed club, who were found guilty last month of widespread financial rule breaking.

Prime Minister Andy Burnham — the former Manchester Mayor — was heavily criticised for saying he would be “really concerned” to lose City’s owners after the shock verdict was announced.

He clarified his position saying: “I think it’s important to separate the football issues from wider investment.”

The Sun has now uncovered a lengthy UAE charm offensive to schmooze politicians, pampering MPs with executive boxes at the footie, free-flowing champagne as well as luxury flights.

Official records show Labour MPs accepted around £275,000 in luxury junkets and foreign trips laid on by the Arab nation — way ahead of the other political parties.

There was also £14,000 worth of Manchester City tickets and hospitality.

The Sun’s findings sparked questions about Labour’s close links to the Gulf state.

More than £25,000 in Man City freebies flowed to politicians from all parties from October 2014 to May 2025, records state.

Over half of VIP tickets dished out went to Labour MPs with a direct Manchester connection. Heading the list of so-called Westminster “liggers” was Ms Powell, MP for Manchester Central, which covers City’s Etihad stadium.

A long-time ally of Mr Burnham, she accepted free tickets to five matches over an 11-month period worth a whopping £2,360.

Her grandest day out came in March 2024 when she snaffled an £840 ticket to watch City superstars including Erling Haaland take on Newcastle United at the Etihad — from the luxury of the VIP seats.
Infographic ranking UK political parties by the value of UAE freebies accepted by their MPs, with Labour highest at £273,396, followed by the Tories at £174,133, the SNP at £15,101, the Lib Dems at £3,500, and Reform UK at £1,000. 8

Andrew Western, Labour MP for Stretford and Urmston, accepted freebies for four matches, including two VIP hospitality tickets for the Community Shield at Wembley in August 2024 worth £880.

After Mr Burnham took the keys to No 10 in July, the MP was promoted to minister in the Department for Work and Pensions.

Meanwhile, Labour’s MP for Manchester Withington, Jeff Smith, was a guest of his beloved club City on four separate occasions.

His haul included a ticket to the FA Cup Final against arch-rivals Man United in May 2024 worth £1,798 — though he had to watch the Reds lift the trophy after a 2-1 thriller.

Former PM Sir Keir Starmer — who faced criticism for taking more than £100,000 worth of freebies for football matches, concerts and luxury clothes since 2019 — was also a beneficiary of City’s generosity.

The Arsenal fan accepted a £900 ticket when the Blues hosted the Gunners in March 2024.

Other Westminster figures across all political lines have enjoyed high-end hospitality laid on by the UAE.

Since 2012, its government ministries, royal offices and state-funded bodies have splashed out more than £467,000 across at least 78 separate entries into MPs’ Register of Interests.

That amounts to an average of almost £3,000 a month.
