Law enforcement activity has been a "key factor" in reducing the number of small boat Channel crossings, the National Crime Agency (NCA) says.
The number of people arriving in the UK in the first half of 2026 was down 41% on the year before, government figures show.
Turns out all the UK had to do to reduce the boat crossing was ask the police to do something about it.

Sounds like a totally crazy idea, using law enforcement to stop crime, but it's working according to the media.

If migrant numbers entering Europe were down around 40% and migrant numbers entering the UK were down around 40% in the same period, I wonder if there's any connection between the two percentages?

The NCA has worked with international partners to have more than 1,600 boats or engines seized since late 2023, denying their use to people smuggling networks. The wholesale cost of boats and engines has gone up as a result.

Could it be because this increased liaison with the international partners actually began (as stated above) in 2023 when the Tories were in power ?
And has simply continued under the current government ?
