Seems to work elsewhere.
Our tourism industry seems very highly priced anyway. Often cheaper to go abroad and pay their tourist tax, than to holiday at home, before tourist taxes are introduced. |

Don't forget that a tourist already pays 20% tax on the cost of the hotel room in VAT.
It'll be like the London Congestion Charge. Most of the money goes to the company administering it and collecting the money. They put the Congestion Charge up by 50% a few years ago, giving the reason "Not enough people were using it, it wasn't covering costs" (I.E. Not enough congestion) Follow the money trial for this "idea" and it'll lead all the way back to some brown paper envelopes. |

Manchester system seems to be quite efficient at 15% admin, and that's on
£1 a night, so potentially a fiddly charge to collect, and distribute. |

When will residents of a town be compensated with an "immigration tax" if immigrants are plonked there against their wish? This is for the inconvenience and unsuitability of the immigrants.

I thought UK was a Kip nowadays why would they attract tourists ?
I’m not saying it’s a Kip but express, mail and many on this forum align to this opinion Obviously still best in world for sport IMO |

The silly part about this tax is >> if you live and pay your council tax in a borough and stay overnight in that same borough(hotel,caravan etc) you will be classed as a tourist in that borough and have to pay this tax.

All political parties are desperate for new ways to raise revenue. They box themselves in with false promises before elections and then can't raise the obvious txes such as income tax and VAT. They usually try things which have a negative affect on business such as higher parking charges, fuel tax, insurance tax, council tax, stamp duty, business rates and now a tourist tax. All of those will reduce economic activity and reduce corporation tax revenue. Meanwhile more and more people are living in mobile homes-often just a converted panel van-and avoiding paying almost any tax other than on fuel.

Take the kids to a camp site for the night within your local council area and you have to pay a tourist tax. Guess who doesn't have to pay it though? |

The hotels should refuse to collect, in Scotland they are proposing tourist tax in Highlands, 5% with the hotels ect keeping 2%, hell mend emm if they go down this road.
Current fuel prices ect,a few wet years and they will only have themselves to blame. |

Edinburgh introduced the first city wide tourist tax in the UK in July. It applies to a large number of accommodation types, such as hotels, hostels, campervans, boats that stay in one place, holiday lets and campsites, but is capped at five nights in a row. |

the yuk is crazy expensive and its only the legacy that keeps it going
i see tourists and try to help but it drives me nuts. if you are unaware its impossible not to be ripped off the tube will have lines closed at the weekend and tourists have to navigate buses that i dont understand and take forever i met a couple from germany who flew into 'london southend' and they had no idea what what they were in for |
