Are you missing the pouring and drinking of it, or the effect it has on your mood?
I never drink enough to miss the alcohol, but I do drink copious amounts of coffee, and I do get headaches if I go a day without. I suspect that is physical withdrawal. |

The longest I've ever done is 13 days (usually feel much brighter after 5 days) so I wouldn't know if the headcahes start after that. Have you been advised to stop or is it a self imposed thing? What's the longest you've been without a drink before this?
I'd be surprised if the headaches are related to stopping when youve done that amount of time dry, but I'd be interested to hear what others think. |

Self imposed.....am 54 and cant remember ever going more than a few days without a drink since the age of about 30. I enjoy the taste and the way it makes me feel and I do miss it but am determined to see it through to my sons birthday at beginning of December. Was spending probably £30 a week on it so shud feel healthier and lose a bit of weight (BMI 26) as well as saving a few quid.

Best of luck with it. I used to drink to get plssed, but now I just
enjoy the taste of pale ale with new world hops, and good red wine. I don't get plssed unless it's a funeral. |

Best cut down gradually is what I have been told in the past |

Been teetotal for over eleven years now. I stopped the booze before the booze stopped me.

Was drinking mostly Stella, Guiness and wine .....bout 30 quid a weeks worth.....the occasional bottle of single malt (which I adore and was £52 quid a bottle).

If you were going the Boozer that's about a pint a day Dancing
, If you can pack it up fair play , I doubt it would cause headaches |
|
By:
If I got to 3 Months I doubt I would resume drinking

No point going back if you can make it to 3 months. It's marvellous not having a headache in the mornings. I have lost 7 stone since I gave up drinking a couple of years ago.

Was rarely drinking in the pub.....always at home and not good in front of the kids.

Ron, I'll have one tin or bottle most evenings, it won't give you headache.
The calories must be a big issue if you have three or four a night though. |

Beautiful summer's day, about 1980, a friend bet me £1 that I couldn't drink what was left, (about a third), of a bottle of brandy. I won the bet and remember three things of that day;
Ex Man Utd player, Colin Gibson's family owned a hotel, (The Angel in Midhurst if anyone knows it), and they had horses running free in a paddock out the back; I remember galloping around the paddock, no saddle or reins, clinging on to some poor horse's mane Then I remember being in a river, floundering and unable to clamber up the bank to safety, with my friends all standing around laughing helplessly but not saving me. Turned out the 'river' was about six inches deep... Then I remember waking up with only shorts on me, lying where I'd been rolling around for hours, in a bed of stinging nettles, every inch of me covered in stings. In bed for two or three horribly unpleasant days of it and, barring one small bottle of beer at a wedding or something, I haven't drank since. One of the very best decisions I ever made |

By:
Stupidest thing I ever did whilst drunk was whilst on way home from pub with some mates I decided to climb a tree and jump from the top.....I injured my back as tried to land on feet and was in bed for about 10 days unable to walk.....very lucky i never broke my back.

George Best was one of the worst alcoholics. He used to drink all day, which is something I have never done, even when I drank a lot. He had to have a new liver and the doctors said he if he kept drinking he couldn't have another one. I always remember his story about the bell boy saying where did it all go wrong George? And he's sitting on a hotel bed with miss world and his cash winnings he'd thrown all over the bed.

I used to go to the pub most nights from the age of 14 , different days back in the 70s, if you behaved yourself the landlord didn't mind you having a pint.
Being tall for my age would have helped me to look a bit older no doubt. Not much else to do in my village anyway in them days I won most of my beer money playing 3 card brag and similar. I have great memories of those times, nowadays it would be all computer games and mobile phones . Thus began a lifetime of beer drinking which i have thoroughly enjoyed. I have never drunk to the extent that i depended on it, which is obviously a good thing. I was diagnosed with high BP a couple of years back so don't drink as much these days, but i had a good run ![]() |

I used to like nipping in the local working mens club when i was still only 15 as it was so cheap, until a new steward took over, he hated us youngsters and wouldn't entertain serving us.
He used to have Tuesdays off so we would try our luck then as the barmaid didn't care who she served, but one night as i bounded up to the bar he appeared from nowhere and said "i've told you not to come in here until you are 16 and can join as a junior, now eff off !". Oh christ i thought i've done it now, as sat at the bar was the landlady of the Rose & Crown from over the road which was my preferred watering hole. "You'd better go back over the pub then love" she said ![]() Different times indeed. |
