Nanny let me state categorically my opinion and for clarification I am no expert.
I have no idea why they want to risk their lives to get to England but they must be desperate or nobody with another opportunity would do that.
Why not stay in France ? I don’t know.
If they came to Ireland personally could not care less.
I don’t even know financial support works for these lads, but I do know social welfare support is much more in Ireland than UK but obviously it’s more affluent country and things are more expensive, so it probably evens itself out.
I don’t have any answers and agree totally they should be going through proper process to get into UK and who has legitimate claim.
Regarding men leaving wife’s and children to try and get better life for their families for period of time to establish a better life going forward, you will know that yourself with Irish going to England, they never originally brought wife and kids.

I’m giving an honest perspective from my own life day to day experiences
I live in a quiet affluent area.
Things I do regularly
I got to mass a few times a week
I go to pub maybe twice a week
Go to betting shop 4 times a year
Go to beach every day
Going to Lifford for derby next Saturday
My wife does shopping that’s a woman’s job
So I don’t encounter the people you consider a threat.

Typical out of sight out of mind attitude there.

The same sort of attitude prevalent by politicians in Glasgow where for years they claimed they were a sanctuary city and refugees were welcome and now they have the one of the highest concentration in the UK the Council is facing a £110 million black hole.

Malay, i think most, if not all of us would agree with your "motto".

But it's easy to have that laid back attitude when you are untouched by the issues we are talking about here.

Try living in an area that has had a huge influx of migrants and has had huge pressures placed on local services as well as seeing the "newcomers" placed in to housing ahead of locals who have been on a waiting list for months/years. You may have a different view then.

Take you’re point Dixie, no problem on that, I have said consistently I don’t know enough about root cause and if you don’t know that it’s really difficult but I think it’s bad to have hatred of the boat lads, who you don’t know personally, I would assume there are some bad guys but probably in the main alright guys, but I don’t know really and I doubt you know either.

Anyway more importantly for myself today, Man City won and they were rotten and I didn’t bet them or support them but I’d have merry h ell to deal with tomorrow if they hadn’t got it done.

It's clear for all to see. The small or big boats are NOT landing. The illegals are being brought into the country by the RNLI & UK border force. In spite of Tommy's boysin Dover & Portsmouth, the battle is already lost. THE UK GOVERNMENT WANTS THEM HERE. Otherwise, why are government organisations bring them in instead of stopping them landing. Stop donating to RNLI. The police & army are on the side of the government. However ineffective both are, it's impossible for patriotic civilians to prevail. Apparently 5000 were landed in various places in a 24 hour period.
