I was in a pub talking to a friend about driving tests and when we passed. I  said let us look at our licences and see when we passed. That info can be found out  on them.

He was saying he might need glasses soon when he is driving. I said look at my licence and in  column 12 you see "01" which means I need glasses to drive.  I said if you need to start wearing glasses you need to have your licence updated to show that info.

Just wonder what the penalty could be if you did not get your licence updated to show you needed glasses. I would say you would be breaking the law by not doing that. You could be found out if for some reason you were pulled up by the police. Looking at your licence they could see you were wearing glasses and your licence did not show the "01".

Anybody know what the penalty could be? Thanks.

You could potentially be fined for not wearing your glasses or contact lenses.
No idea how often that happens or how it could be proven after the fact though.

My old man was blind in one eye and they renewed his license, which was crazy.
After he had hit several inanimate objects I removed his battery so he couldn't
drive his car before he hit something "animate."
Harsh on him but fair on everyone else.

Anyone who has been through it knows that "it is maybe time you stopped driving"
conversation is very fraught.
