What made him catnip to the Daily Mail and its readers?

It was an astonishing story of lies and deception, that fooled the left wingers like Joseph o Brien, The Guardian, ITV, BBC, Sky, along with all the race grifters who brought him to the medias attention and platformed him. When it all got shown up as fraud the media had a field day at the expense of the lefty luvvies who fell for the lies and deception, now the same mob who held him in such high regard are left with their expired race card slogan, it's just so predictable.

It really isn't difficult to comprehend, even for the brainwashed left.

The Telegraph were leading on the story, weren't they?

This is the modern world now, the craving for clicks. So anyone who has monetised content wanted to make content on the story, as it gained traction.

In what world do you think a fantasist making it to the position of Cambridge professor wouldn't be a story. Or the police stopping a times education journalist asking them legitimate questions. The added ingredient is that was made the poster boy of Cambridge University, and everyone knows exactly why (aside from SirNorbortClarke, possibly).

Same as 'wagatha christie' and Nicola Bulley, and the footballer that kicked a cat, and the woman that slapped a horse (for example). In the online sponsored world, everyone needs clicks. If a story gets clicks, more people run the story, leading to more clicks, and the search to find more angles. You get the idea.

most academics are obscure to most people, but most people assume that a professor at Cambridge is in the intellectual elite, with cast iron credentials

It would be like a sunday league footballer getting into a premier league team by passing off another player's goal scoring record as his own

So of course it is something that will interest readers of any news site.

One of the most memorable live television moments of all time. In May 2006, Guy Goma was accidentally interviewed live on BBC News 24, in place of a technology expert, Guy Kewney, who was scheduled to discuss a high-profile court case. The mix-up made for compelling viewing, as Goma, a Congolese business studies graduate, was quizzed about the court case and the music download service, Apple's iTunes by BBC Business presenter Karen Bowerman.

The interview soon went viral, and Goma became an overnight sensation, with people from all over the world talking about his composure during the unexpected on-air appearance. Goma had arrived at the BBC for a job interview, and while waiting in the reception area, was mistaken for Guy Kewney, who was due to appear on the news program that day. Despite being surprised and initially confused, Goma gamely answered the interviewer's questions, and his calm demeanor under pressure won over viewers.

The incident brought Goma instant fame, and he was subsequently invited to appear on a range of television shows and interviews, including The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. The story of Guy Goma is a reminder that sometimes, unexpected events can lead to extraordinary opportunities, and that keeping one's composure in the face of adversity can be a valuable asset.

Souness fell for that guy that was George weahs pretend cousin, so it does happen in footy.

Seems as if he was imported to fill a hole

When I was at uni their were a couple of lecturers who were obvious bluffers.

One left after a month, lol, and we got Friday afternoons off for 6 months or so,
The other could still be there for all I know, lol again.

Had a Billy bullshiner teacher at school, he was head of department, lol.

I was pretty sure I was good to pass exam but, he gave me 28% in mock. Only 4 boys out

We oppose deviants, creeps, freaks & those who escape primitive cultures, are given everything in the UK & HATE our country & try to change it to the countries they've escaped from. Unfortunately it's too late as Grate (sic) Britain has become a degenerate liberal democracy where human rights only apply to culprits, not victims. A moral cesspit in which some don't need to earn a living due to benefits & have plenty of time to gaze at their navels & wonder if they're male, female or in between & whether they fancy switching just for a change. In that case I'm proud to be malignant. Unfortunately Sorbert & his ilk are the reason the country's in the state it's in. There's not logic to the people that defended Arday when he was outed, and the claims that 'racism wot did it' after people say he committing suicide after the fake world he'd created, fell in.

I'd love to know, if it was racist to expose him, and laugh at his multitude of tall tales, and the virtue signallers that enabled him to get the position of professor in Cambridge, should he have been allowed to carry on with his sinful existence.

Yes and if people had done their jobs, it wouldn't have been topping the headline news.
It became headline news as they all tried to cover it up. Standard for these types of organisations, to put their institutional reputation ahead of anything else.
If you make yourself familiar with the whole story (I did), it was covered up at every stage until Cambridge had no alternative (as the story itself was destroying their reputation, ie it inverted).
Even then, of course, JA was in total denial, even though he was boxed in, and the fantasy was inevitably falling apart.

I actually feel like it's right not to speculate if someone committed suicide, and why. Perhaps it will emerge. However that event doesn't change anything that went before.
