Because he is being attacked by a gang, and doesn't know it's a fed. How would he know? Why would the fed push the person being attacked into the shutters?

one of the black guys suckers him with a clothes line from behind, and you expect him to know it's a copper pushing him into the shutters?

Her high vis jacket with "POLICE" emblazoned on it is the most obvious clue.
Punching a woman, punching a police officer, either of those should result in a custodial.

No, if you've got a gang of people trying to take you down, when one of them gets you from behind you don't wait to see what they are wearing.
Are you that conditioned now that you don't even want to see what has happened?
I have never seen cops get hands on without announcing who they are first, and definitely not the victim of a gang assault!

I think punching a police officer just because the assailant was mistaken even if the assailant was being chased or punched by others in a gang is no excuse. Then again the CPS could have dropped the prosecution at the last minute for reasons eg new evidence has come to light, the assailant was genuinely unaware and lost bearing, etc.
I think the CPS was correct to drop the prosecution even though it was close to the court date.
