Battery storage is too expensive. You'd need an enormous supply of lithium and the demand for it outstrips supply.
The best solution is for lower tariffs when there is over supply in off peak hours, promoting use rather than the need to store it. |

AFAIK, Lithium is the 3rd most abundant element in the Universe after Hydrogen and Helium
I don't think we are likely to run out of Lithium. |

Think the food waste is more for anaerobic digestion in a sealed vessel producing methane which is used to produce methane which in turn is used to power an ICE which in turns a Gen to make electricity which is sold to grid and prob at a premium from tarrifs.
It could be compressed to produce LNG but that's expensive and dangerous, although surprised it's not being done. The waste will be turned into compost. Ethanol Bio fuel (E10%) in UK comes mostly from overseas about 30% being made here. Diesel bio fuel (B5%) is mostly recycled veggie oil. Direct Battery for wind is one way but their are other options including pumped storage like Red John ect or the one that could be a goer but very expensive is Hydrogen but still early days. They are experimenting to see how much can be mixed with the domestic natural gas network. A mixture of all will be answer with SMR (nuclear) helping too, expecially in winter when sun wind not in play. Current nimby hatred of local battery storage a joke fueled by politics of the silly. |

Thing is the railways have just been electrified when they could of been ideal for Hydrogen, talk of trucks in USA and here but the brochure doesn't mention green hydrogen Production and storage costs on the road let alone the costs of the actual vehicles. Currently hydrogen is silly money per kg in USA and doubt long term it's a goer for transport.Is hard to make/store/transport and for its weight it carries little energy compared to alternatives. LNG is being discontinued in uk for vehicles, doubt hydrogen is going to take its place. Deffo has a future using green hydrogen burnt at night to produce elec, think SMR is prob cheaper although personally no fan of nuclear but will be funny when the battery storage nimby's get one via central gov planning for chrimbo. |
