The OP talks about the left. But as I've consistently stated, the divide is no longer left and right. The divide is those who want to see the expunging of British/western cultural values. And those who still cherish them. I've very willing to believe that there are right wing people that despise British/western culture, and people on the left who don't want to see it expunged. You can broadly put the divide along the Brexit / EU line. Hence the fragmentation of domestic politics since Brexit won the argument.
