Restore Britain will stand in the Clacton by-election.

The second one, held later this year, when the investigations into Farage’s finances conclude as we all suspect they will.

We are not going to participate in a Reform-sponsored media circus over the summer months that is designed to puff up Farage’s ego and deflect away from wholly fair questions over why he has concealed such vast and irregular financial donations.

Farage can play with his toys for the next six weeks, but Restore Britain is going to continue producing detailed policy papers, exactly as we have been, outlining how we can fix our country.

That is what I am interested in.

Detail. Data. Policy.

A plan.

I feel for the people of Clacton who deserve so much better than this unnecessary sham forced on them throughout their summer.
Report impossible123 July 7, 2026 4:41 PM BST
The beginning of a swift end of Mr Farage's political career in the UK, I'd imagine. Mr Farage could be the only candidate for the by-election in August prior to the conclusion of the investigation by the Parliamentary Standards Commission.

Binface for Clacton!
Report kevinglass July 7, 2026 6:17 PM BST
Surely a Martin Bell like candidate here would work, if nobody stands.

He got 45%or so last time, so a 2 horse race would be tough for him to win. I wouldn't be buying money at 1.12.

Carol Vordeman maybe, post Makerfield, would be a lot of fun.

He'll never have a better chance. Needs to convince the Monster Raving Loony Party to stand down. We wouldn't want to split the vote.

Imagine Farage on the popdium.....and Binface wins. It would top England winning the World Cup.
Report Dotchinite July 7, 2026 8:06 PM BST
Regardless of what you think of Farage and his motives the two main parties not standing in a UK election is embarrassing. Everyone is playing games and its pathetic.
Report lapsy pa July 7, 2026 8:14 PM BST
Maybe they simply aren't playing farages 'game' Dotch? I think that is bang on,why should they?
Report DixieDean60 July 7, 2026 8:24 PM BST
What they are basically saying lapsy is that they know they can't win.

If they thought they could then of course they'd "play the game" as you call it.
Report Cider July 7, 2026 8:25 PM BST
lol lapsy, we about to have a pm inflicted on a country who wasn't even in parliament a month ago.

politics is a dirty game, and the Liberalists are the dirtiest of the lot. if they thought they could win, they would not be running away.
Report lapsy pa July 7, 2026 8:29 PM BST
Fair enough,it will be a hollow win and doesn't marry in really with the 'taking the establishment on 'reason though. A walkover in horsey parlance.

Report Dotchinite July 7, 2026 8:47 PM BST
As has been said above they know they cant beat him thats why they arent standing. Labour of course have plenty of form not having elections they cant win but this time at least it goes ahead without them.
Report DixieDean60 July 7, 2026 8:48 PM BST
When the combined "might" of the other parties is all about simply trying to stop Reform then you know that those parties have eff all to offer the electorate.

We have a local election in my area coming up, the first page of each of the Conservative, Labour and Green leaflets rant on about how we must stop Reform rather than telling us what they would actually do if elected.

Straight in the bin.
Report Cider July 7, 2026 8:48 PM BST
I think people would be more sympathetic about the concern, if those with said concern were equally disturbed by the flow of money into establishment politicians.

He received the gift when he wasn't a MP.

Labour received money and handed out £multimillion contracts to their donors in government.

Not a great look for the other parties.

It's all fair and well saying farage is corrupt and we aren't going to play his game but to tell a whole constituency of voters that your choice is between a corrupt rogue or a bloke who wears a bin on his head is not exactly a show of respect to the electorate.

Could Mr Farage be embarrassed if the Clacton electorates are savvy and clued up? A tactical voting switch to Count Binface after all there'll be another Clacton by-election post the Parliamentary Standards Commission investigation.

Any each-way betting available here? Even 1/3 could be tasty.

Could Reform become defunct if Mr Farage is a disqualified MP? He'd be with no credibility if pummelled by the PSC investigation. Then he might be asked to return the £5m given he'd be politically impotent if taken to the shredders by the PSC.
