Former deputy leader of the Labour Party who helped prevent the party splitting in the 1980s, paving the foundation for the 1997 GE victory.

On leaving the HoC, he entered the Lords and became a writer and journalist, publishing a variety of books which included 'Buster's Diaries', a memoir written from the perspective of his dog.

RIP Lord Hattersley.
