(Source RTE), Two women have made allegations of sexual offences against Jeffrey,these occured while they were at primary school and continued for a number of years. The charges include one of rape,four counts of gross indecency and thirteen charges of indecent assualt. Mrs Donaldson denies 5 charges of aiding and abetting her husband.The offences are alleged to have happened between 1985 and 2008.

The wife has some sort of strange immunity from criminal charges I believe might be wrong on that. Obviously nobody apart from 4 people actually know if he’s guilty.
I think he might walk, it’s going to be difficult to prove beyond reasonable doubt, there will be no forensic, wasn’t reported at time, no witnesses, basically his word against witnesses a and b. |

On the face of it two random women making these accusations would suggest the offences actually happened.The postponing multiple times would also seem to me if he was innocent he would have cleared his name asap.Resigning the day after the charges isn't the act of an innocent man either.
A good barrister can work wonders i agree,we'll see. |

Lady Eleanor has been judged unfit to plead. i'm not sure why.
So in her case it is a trial of the facts,whatever that is. I think we can assume it means SHE won't be sent down. |

His legal team Pa seem to be doing a good job, they appear to have made the letter bit less significant as I first thought it would be.

I think the letter is damning, a very vague 'oh that was for other behaviour' the girls solictor should have a field day with that by simply asking him what behaviour was that.

Initially pa when I heard about the letter I thought it was badly damaging to him but not sure now,I think it is probably crucial documentation in case and how he responds to prosecution in the dock when asked.

Donaldson's legal team is focusing heavily on undermining the reliability of the witness testimonies. Casting doubt on the evidence, trying to put enough doubt in the minds of the jury. Always difficult to prove these cases beyond a reasonable doubt, and if so that’s the potential of not getting a guilty verdict. Not that he’s innocent or guilty, it’s just not proven.
I must say when he resigned immediately back a couple of years back, my initially thought was there was something in this. Not just a misdemeanour from decades ago either. Up to the late 2000s. Of course anonymity means we don’t know who the two women are, if they were connected or this involves totally separate allegations, that don’t have a link. |

The letter last week and the text message today look fairly strong evidence. Agree that all have to be proven.Amazing both Donaldsons seem to have wanted to apologise to both women.

they don't get much news coverage here though. Average about 12 years apiece, out in 6? Any opinions on that. I'm betting yer man will get more than that if found guilty. |

Think the 2 witnesses were very creditable Malay. He has some explaining to do to why he tried to apologise to the victims,a pastor and a written letter are damning. Probably will try and 'tone down' the victims stories imo.
That seems short sentences in Bradford,a life sentence for the victims though. |

Please stick to thread topic lads, remember this case regards of very prominent UK politician. Start another thread if you want about all the beasts in the UK, if you know there names and other people may be familiar with them, that’s what you should do.

Jury taking long time, it means they are not sure, he walks. Well done to defence counsel but they had the easier job.

I think he probably did do it but that opinion is irrelevant, it was strange case with wife getting criminal immunity.
Obviously whatever way it goes it’s a bad result for unionists. Because we all know stakeholders. |
