People mistakenly believe net migration is rising in Britain despite figures dropping to their lowest level in years, a leading thinktank has found.

New research from British Future, published ahead of latest government figures on migration, has revealed a chasm between reality and public perception of net migration, with a substantial portion of the public believing it has increased, despite figures showing a sharp fall.

Net migration dropped from a peak of 944,000 in the year to March 2023 to 204,000 in the year to June 2025, according to government figures.

Net migration is increasing

It's the rate that is dropping.

All those that come in on backs of Lorries each day all accounted for ? Yes?

Get help!!

Leftism is a mental illness!

We need to show compassion to them I spose.

If nett migration is 140,000 then 140,000 more people
have come to uk than have left it.

There's about 600k deaths and 595k births

So population increase of nett migration less 5k

Caught some of O'Brien earlier, banging on about this, oblivious as ever.

The concern is not immigration per se James *raps knuckles on forehead, it's demographic change.

The fact that immigration is down is inconsequential to this end as the tipping point has long been breached.

The Tory policies brought in towards the end of their tenure obviously having an effect on these figures.

The current Home Secretary seems to want to get to grips with things, a rarity in the current cabinet.

Perception amongst the social media types (that PoP alludes to) is of course based mainly on small boat crossings, which are actually up slightly year on year.

My nephew happened to spend last weekend in Slough.  He was amazed at how few white people he saw there.

Upon checking the Census data, in 2001 Slough's population was 58% White British but in 2021 that percentage had dropped to 24% Shocked

It's the pace of demographic change that worries most people i think.

I mean it's not as if anyone on the left has ever bandied about 'the Great Replacement Theory' while clutching their pearls and calling it a conspiracy.

I wonder what on earth that might refer to?

It's not about the net migration numbers it's about the macroeconomic impact  of the people leaving compared to the macroeconomic impact of those that arrive.

Lapsy - the main reason for the reduction in numbers is down to the Tory policies brought in during 23/24 before they got kicked out.
Cutting back on family members joining students etc.  Labour have simply ran with those policies and lo and behold numbers come down.
The current Home Secretary is one of the few in the current government with any credibility and is at least trying to sort things out.

That's the twist, maybe some were secretly hoping they were up to justify getting behind the nige?

At this rate by 2029 there could even be more leaving then coming in,imagine that!

Labour it seems are the correct party to tackle head on britons biggest worry in the immigration.

Hello Dixie,i'm aware of that but that was when everyone found out that they were leaving everyone in and at the same time telling you about Rwanda, they were caught out.

They should publish numbers of where the people arriving or leaving were born.
Also do they realise that 171,000 people is the equivalent of 2 new towns, 50,000 new houses etc.
Maybe a few years of zero net migration is in order.

yeah, but see lux above. It's not about numbers any more. If there's any brown skin in his postcode he's logging on to youtube for sanctuary.

Not sure what you mean by "they were caught out" Lapsy ?

Small boat arrivals still up year on year and we are just about to enter peak season for crossings. This period will tell us if Labour's "smash the gangs" promise is working or not.

The "Great replacement theory" could well explain things in London.
In the 2021 census >40% weren't born here and this only includes the people who filled the forms in.

The torys/Patel were promising to cut immigration but record numbers came in which caused outrage as it certainly couldn't continue, then they had to do something.

I guess it boils down to this: Do you actually value a world of genuine diversity — which, shock horror, is necessarily exclusive — or are you just a midwit mouthpiece for turning Britain into a rootless economic slaughterhouse?

Lux,the point where any developed country can be almost completely indigenous is long gone, the main reason was cheap labour which in theory should have 'enriched' lives.
I am starting to think the big problem is a nation of unhappy angry moany people.

ok then.

Your argument fails.

Why is a diverse world necessarily exclusive? Let's start there.
By:
lux
When: 21 May 26 19:24
because any identity, necessarily, is defined as much by what it excludes as by what it includes.
By:
lux
When: 21 May 26 19:25
genuine diversity is predicated on that straightforward acknowledgement.
By:
lux
When: 21 May 26 19:31
genuine diversity distinct from the "muh diversity" associated with multiculturalism which is just a dissolutive force (to white europeans)
By:

But identity is individual. You have a sexual identity. And yet you probably share your home with someone of a different sexual identity. It is in our very nature to shed our individuality and live with others.

there is no diversity in most parts of the world. russia china aint diverse and nor is africa. wrong tribe, big problem. nigerians in south africa are attacked and bombed out. it happens all over

only we have to embrace it. incomers dont and the opprssion of wimmin that would outrage feminists if it happened to them is appalling but goes unchallenged. fact. but never admitted

the mono-culture of others is ignored. the middle east a good example. no diversity allowed there. its deadly. then it arrives here

dunno what the record for deleted posts is but im in the convo alright

when i find who its worth complaining to, ie not what we have now im going to. they might lose the business as nobody bothers any longer. who nose? if theres no posters the forum will end. has to be some mileage in that

what we have now is like a student discussion group cancelling everything
