I am 82 so certainly won't but as I live in Somerset, why would I travel from London to Birmingham even if it was free? Once again we are all paying a lot for the benefit of the few who want to save 10 minutes between 2 very large cities that I would pay quite a lot to avoid having to visit. I think I have been to Birmingham twice in my lifetime. I have been to Rio de Janeiro and Los Angeles more often than that.

Birmingham is a business hub, and connecting up our cities
with a better rail network was a great idea.

Sadly it was bodged, and used to enrich folk rather
than join up our cities to help growth.

I was regular traveller on rail from Newcastle to
Manchester and Birmingham.

The service is truly dreadful, so places like newcastle suffer
compared to Manchester and Birmingham, whilst manchester
and Birmingham lose out to London and South East Coast.

Could have built it for half the price, and had it finished
if it had drive of Brunel or Stephenson behind it

Instead we had spaffer

Total waste of Money , Is there not a Train already does that Journey in Just over an Hour , Leeds used to be two hours not sure if that is any quicker now

I agree with sage , I feel no need to visit either City ,I wonder what the Price of a ticket to arrive 10 minutes earlier will be ?

bollox from cider. shut up

its a disaster alright. the 'sunk cost fallacy' in play

zillions over and already a white elephant. another example of state waste and incompetence on a grand scale. bin it. even now. ive seen the damage its caused, and for what? consultancies milking the gormless witless minsiters whove never had to run a business or read a balance sheet. its perverse

by the time it opens its obsolete

for a tenth of the money we could have super=fast interweb from skye to john o groats and a chunk left over for a big party

If the London end of it is in North London, wont the 15 minutes saved be eaten up getting a taxi into the centre ? The Chinese would have laid a thousand miles of track by now.

the end of the line is uncertain but likely to be euston, which is central

the ccp does have a bit of an advantage. it does what it wants and if you complain you are hovis. its giant projects dont have public enquiries. get out of the way or else so its a bit different

another difference is that theirs are usually useful, given the lack of infrastructure after 70 years of the great socialist experiment

Not bollox at all. It's pure marxism. Exactly how much money do you think has been transferred from the proles to the elites.

What have the proles got for it? If they are still alive when it sees a running train, how many of them will use it?

A: none

Britain’s new high-speed railway

We’re helping people to begin skilled careers in construction, engineering and manufacturing by helping to build the new railway between London and Birmingham.

We’re removing barriers to opportunity and building a workforce that will benefit industry for future generations.

Around 30,000 people are building HS2. They work in highly skilled jobs across a wide range of sectors.

30,000 people. Probably 25,000 'working' from home.

a suppose it really weakens the argument for nationalisation given the general level of waste and incompetence in the public sector
