Another stealth tax.

Why not just make the BBC a subscription service?

That way if they make good TV the whole world can pay for it!

100% agree. Subscribe if you wish to see the BBC output, otherwise go without. Time to remove the TV tax.

Great idea, why not just sell it to a foreign billionaire
who can broadcast more right wing chite into the swivel eyes.
Report impossible123 May 12, 2026 2:20 PM BST
Why does the BBC not introduce or issue a code for the specific use at the address of the paid licence holder? This is not transferable. If an unauthorised access is received and proven an automatic charge to the payment card of the person registered at the building using info from the electoral register, dvla, credit reference agency, hmrc, dwp, etc. In the digital age we are living a payment could be obtained with little difficulty. If all else fails, a physical visit to the address concerned. (QED).

Anyone who doesn't like at least 10-15% of bbc content doesn't like British culture.

Let's face it, it's trying to provide for everyone in Britain, you can't like 100% of it.
But if you don't like at least 10-15% of it then you don't like British culture.

History, science, nature, music, sport, art, quiz shows for every level of IQ, drama from shakespeare to east enders.
Etc etc etc.

If you don't like some of that then nothing will make you happy.

Just had a quick look at the tv guide for tomorrow on BBC123&4.
I certainly don't see a lot i'd want to watch and i can't see much that you could call British culture.
I can't see much in the way of history, science, nature, music, sport or art but there is a lot news, antiques & quiz shows.
However i can see a lot of cheap low cost programming.

Hopefully Trump will sue them and get them shut down.

Simply looking at BBC4 schedule for tomorrow night you'll find 3 history programs, 1 science program, University challenge which has run for 60 years and therefore counts as british culture, and a british made film, also british culture.

The problem for the BBC currently is that we are pretty much at the halfway point between aerial tv and streeaming.

The BBC need to be the last bastion of aerial tv but also the one progressing the move to streaming via Freely with the other public broadcasters.

Nothing will change until they switch the transmitters off but then they will need to reform the way the BBC works.

There is a lot of good stuff on the BBC still. I haven't watched the news on there in ages because they are big leftie ****** but the amount of nature documentaries you can watch in 4k on Iplayer is ten times better than what you will get on Netflix, Apple TV etc even if you give them 10-20 quid for the privildge.
