Even worse in a Tesla following a crash because with the battery on fire you can't open the doors from the inside and with the door handles retracted neither can anyone from outside.

For decades Vauxhall ignored the fact that their six inch high fuel intake funnel would shear in an accident and spew out fuel which would often ignite as a result. It took the publicity of thousands of unnecessary deaths for the issue to be addressed. At least, that’s what BBC docs. told us way back. This EV issue might be treated with similar contempt by the responsible parties?

They are starting the initial testing of Waymos now in London. They will have safety drivers to begin with then autonomous in 2026. I can't wait til they come to Wembley. I will take the risk. In 127 million miles of fully autonomous operation Waymo has reported zero passenger fatalities.

They were parked tightly together so I suspect one went up and it quickly spread.
At the moment the government simply do not have a handle on batteries coming from China/Vietnam. |

A new study by Anidjar & Levine on vehicle safety has shown that internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, including those that run on gasoline or diesel, experience 60 times more fires than electric vehicles (EVs).
With 1,530 fires per 100,000 vehicles compared to EVs’ 25 fires, this contrast is just one of many findings reshaping how we understand road safety and public health. And EV's don't use main battery for the doors,upon being involved in a reasonably heavy impact or immersion in water the doors auto open, the main batt is auto disconnected via small explosive connectors which are supplied juice via the 12v batt. Most if not all EV's have manual means to open windows /doors. Hth....muppets. |
