Looking at my TV paper tonight on ITV we have a programme about covid contracts. I will make sure to see this to see what is said about the purchase of PPE during the pandemic.
To me massive incompetence was shown then which has cost us billions. Companies were used which had no previous dealings with PPE while some companies active in that type of business were somewhat sidelined. I seem to remember an MP saying that a company in her constituency with some PPE stock could not seem to have it purchased by the NHS. In fact I think she said some of it ended up on wagons going to Italy where the company had found a buyer. I worked at one time in a position where I ordered items from various companies. If you were facing a shortage of items which were becoming essential you would normally deal with companies involved in that type of business. Where there were problems trying to source what you needed through them you would possibly look to use companies new to that type of business.
Using new companies before established companies did not, and still does not make any sense to me. This could be interesting watching tonight.
