Because the country wanted a SOCIALIST govt to rebuild the ruins, and knew the Tories were the wrong choice for that

I've pondered this very question for the last 79 years, it's kept me awake night and day in search of the truth, I've scoured the internet high and low looking for the reason, tapped into the fountains of knowledge of every possible political anorak I could lay my hands on whilst devouring in nano seconds any possible source of info on the matter that has happened to come my way, finally you have delivered the answer to my doormat, an answer that has escaped even the brightest of minds over the last century or so, from historians to biographers to scribes to Poirot to Colombo himself, I would never have known unless you'd have told me this most ungoogable of queries, I can now sleep at night, thank you.

Kind Regards.

They did want change and a new country. A new way of life not subordination…… and here we are. No homes fit for heroes.

Unfair to tax the rich, unfair for landowner farmers children to pay inheritance tax on land assets in excess of £3 million, unfair to pay vat on school fees for the 7%

That generation were right to vote for change and a more equitable society. We are we turning our backs on that dream?

Never mind the propaganda that suggests Tories underestimated Labours chances (like Sunak) , or the British people wished to see change and memories and move on from the 1930s Depression or voters intended to move on from the war. Unfortunately there was confidence that Labour would bring about great political and economic change. It was easy increasing belief in access to opportunities for all especially after a war. Churchill mistakenly compared Labour’s planned socialism to tyrannical dictatorships, and even made reference to the Gestapo . The Daily Express newspaper, a supporter of the Conservatives, used the headline ‘GESTAPO IN BRITAIN IF SOCIALISTS WIN’, and this horrified many voters. Not far off last July. Problem is now that they have both had plenty of chances and the country is still heading down the plughole.

Atlee was deputy leader of wartime coalition and gained great public
credit for this.

Tories hadn't been great before war, so still some resentment.

Labour promised a future that sounded better than that proposed by Churchill.

Still a stunning result.

I think that Sunak had a very good idea of Labour's chances and saw no point in fighting an election when the new Government would face a nightmare scenario as we now know only too well. I live in what was a safe Conservative seat and there was not a single blue poster to be seen. His policy was start saving for the next election rather than waste money on losing this one. Trouble is they are not getting any new money in now.

Churchill saved the world and was the unwitting catalyst for social change. He was at one time a lone voice in opposing Hitler, however just because you a good at one thing and that was leading us through the second world war, dosn't mean you are qualified for the following peace. The political elite never intended to oppose Hitler, they knew we did not have the capability to fight two wars at the same time, one in Europe a place we had no real possessions and one in the India, Africa and the far East, places where we had most of the empire. It was a stark choice and one that the elites had already made. One of the reasons Churchill is hated so much by the upper and upper middle class is his decision to fight on both fronts, and involving the Americans who insisted we give up our empire in exchange for their support. This meant they lost their interests and  privilege, they and their decendants would become the major driving force behind the woke left, a group of people that hate this country but ironically have nowhere else to go.

Absolute drunken p--ck of a human being, seldom anywhere approaching being sober around 4pm to the extent he was incapable of holding a meeting as the melt sat there in his pish stained y-fronts wandering around the war sheltered command centre.

Horrible fo0k1ng midget the electorate wouldn't trust.
