Iran has overall been backing and supplying Hamas for quite a while, even if at times there have been some critical tones between them.
There are suggestions the october massacre was primarily timed that way to prevent further normalisation of relations between the sunni states and Israel, who were about to formally buddy up with Saudi Arabia. That Iran couldn't have that as the one state in the entire region that still has major trouble with Israel existing. As well as them not wanting their primary muslim rival, Saudi Arabia, formalising ties with the primary military power of the region, Israel. |
