Costco quality at Waitrose prices. How do they survive?

More staff than customers in my nearest branch.

A handy small supermarket to help you, particularly in rural areas.
Report Pokermonster September 3, 2022 6:06 PM BST
I’m away from home and stopped off at a store today to buy a few basic supplies.

The quality is dreadful, yet prices are noticeably higher than most other supermarkets. This would seem to be an unsustainable combination… how they make it work is a mystery to me.

Maybe the supermarket helps to promote the funeral business which I would guess does very well.  Not sure about the bank?
Report Pokermonster September 3, 2022 6:14 PM BST
Given the quality of their produce, one might be forgiven in wondering if the supermarket is trying to drum up business for the funeral side.

they've cornered the corner shop marketLaugh
in places where there are few and or expensive busses

Highlighted these highwaymen earlier in the year.
They put "waitrose" in a good(ish) light

Report Pokermonster September 3, 2022 8:29 PM BST
I’m surprised they’re not still wearing masks.

Location in some cases.
The one nearest to us has little competition in the middle of a housing complex.

I've never seen it busy. Which is good because the checkout is unusually slow.

today's price-imagine a little old dear shopping 'conveniently',  blissfully unaware - rancid highwaymen without masks

Just remembered they have links to the Labour Party. Wish I hadn’t shopped there now.

Most folks save money by just walking to their local co-op rather than using fuel to drive to the sainsbury miles away.

I highly recommend the cooperative in the village of Lamlash on the island of arran where I have a holiday home. Lovely people.

Always been a trash store

I used to buy my Choca Mochas from there back in 2008 until I lost the wetness behidn the ears and found them £1.25 cheaper at the paper shop up the road Crazy

A paper shop cheaper than a co op... ffs
Report Pokermonster September 4, 2022 1:25 PM BST
Just been looking up some of their prices compared to elsewhere. Incredible!

Anyone who shops at Co-op regularly is being royally ripped off. Martin Lewis should make a programme about it.
Report Pokermonster September 4, 2022 1:31 PM BST
You know how Tesco like to mark up produce with “Price Matched To Aldi” stickers… for a laugh the Co-op should post up “Price Matched With Harrods.”
Report Cider September 4, 2022 1:38 PM BST
It's a lot more expensive running those little sites. People are paying for the convenience, predominately.
Report Cider September 4, 2022 1:39 PM BST
I don't use Tesco at all, bit I believe their smaller sites, 'Express', have a more expensive pricing model.

Stick with Morrisons, the finest supermarkets in the business.
Report garthur September 4, 2022 2:01 PM BST
There's an absolute little smasher who works at our local one
