France had announced last week that Britain would set up a pop-up visa centre in the port city after London announced a scheme to allow family members of Ukrainians settled in the UK to enter the country.

Following the announcement, hundreds of Ukrainians travelled to Calais in an attempt to reunite with their families in the UK.

The European Union has announced measures to accommodate the refugees for up to three years. British prime minister Boris Johnson last week promised to be “very generous” to refugees seeking safety.

Boris talks a great game, one of the best in parliament, but it's naïve to believe he'll do what he says.

Any scheme like this is simply going to encourage fake applicants, never even been to Ukraine perhaps.

It's very telling that refugees leave war torn Ukraine, get all the way to France and still want to get to the UK.

We need to create technology that can move the entire UK and maybe Ireland far away from Europe as possible.

Those countries neighbouring Ukraine seem to be having difficulty coping with a couple of million shared between them, meanwhile…..

Hearing on @bbc5live how a Ukrainian woman and her 8-year-old daughter slept rough for 4 days and nights in freezing temperatures to cross the Polish border, only to be refused entry to the UK at Calais. Compassion is not complex.

I do have sympathy a bit with the UK,i was talking to someone and there aren't places to house a lot of people socially, why aren't the politicians honest with this and trying to score points by talking bollix.

Possible the woman in question/150 know someone in UK,that if true should be allowed as they can house them.

We're already full of illegals, now there are some genuine refugees. The worst decisions are made in a crisis though, and this seems like another one to me. The whole world can't live in the developed part of europe. If some other country is invaded, do we have to take them all too? As much as you obviously feel for displaced Ukrainians, taking them all in is not a solution.

When i was about 17 i met a fella in the pub who asked was i related to X, he was my grandfather as it happened.your man said his door was always open for a bowl of porridge, only later did i realise it was 1920's Ireland,no one  had much but they had a bit of humanity, we have to have some of that today,it might even work in the end.
