The Mercury Seven were the group of seven astronauts selected to fly spacecraft for Project Mercury. They are also referred to as the Original Seven and Astronaut Group 1. Their names were publicly announced by NASA on April 9, 19 fifty nine . These seven original American astronauts were Scott Carpenter, Gordon Cooper, John Glenn, Gus Grissom, Wally Schirra, Alan Shepard, and Deke Slayton. The Mercury Seven created a new profession in the United States, and established the image of the American astronaut for decades to come.

Turns out that Gordon Cooper was a bit of a rebel and spent his time in space taking photographs of "anamolies" in the ocean which he believed amounted to a treasure map leading to lost pirate gold |

Starts in the Mohave desert base and the first man that break the sound barrier , Chuck Yeager ( he also shot down 5 Germans in one day in WW2) and it takes you through to the space race early sixties In many ways Yeager was the star of the show in the film and real life |

The first open championship to be held at St Andrews was the 13th renewal in 1873. This was won by Tom kidd with rounds of 91-88 to win by one stroke, and take the winners purse of £11. High scoring is attributed to rain in the run up to the event leaving vast puddles. Relief from puddles came at cost of one stroke, with no free drop for casual water back then. |

On January 15, 2009, US Airways Flight 1549, an Airbus A320 on a flight from New York City's LaGuardia Airport to Charlotte, North Carolina, struck a flock of birds shortly after take-off, losing all engine power. Unable to reach any airport for an emergency landing, pilots Chesley Sullenberger and Jeffrey Skiles glided the plane to a ditching in the Hudson River off Midtown Manhattan. All 155 people on board were rescued by nearby boats, with few serious injuries.
