People need to stop seeing enemies of the Empire everywhere.
Report edy September 13, 2020 2:05 PM BST
They do of course have a different opinion of what's in the UK's best interest (like keeping the Union together) than the Daily Express (making lefties cry salty tears) does, but of course in no way does either The New European or The Grauniad seek to damage UK interest.

The enemy is the Empire, edy.

Do you still pine for the old Soviet empire, edy?
As a self-declared former citizen of it you will surely have an opinion?
Report edy September 13, 2020 2:45 PM BST
I never self-declared myself a former citizen of the Soviet Empire. My life as a citizen of the GDR was great. Sure, there were moments where I wasn't very happy. There were moments were I cried, often a lot. Sorrows kept me awake for entire nights. There were moments where I suffered from anxiety and had existential fears. Many times I thought I was going to starve, or die helplessly. I felt oppressed, I wasn't free to do whatever I wanted. There was always someone who seemed to know better, someone who literally forbade me from doing and saying stuff. So that aspect wasn't very nice.

You eventually arrange yourself with those things mentioned above though, so overall I have to say it was a good life. I would wake up, eat breakfast, go to nursery school where the sister of my grandma worked. Eat fantastic mush that was still freshly prepared by the staff. Eat, sleep, fart was my way of life. It was a grand ol' time. I literally cannot wait until I turn ~80 and my life goes back to only consisting of those things.

And freedom turned you into that someone.

saddo, you can stop pretending you are a libertarian who is free-for-all and doesn't have any expectations regarding the behaviour of your fellow humans.

I mean, you even moan about perfectly harmless papers and demonize them as evil quisling anti-patriots that seek to damage UK interests...

Just because they dare to not agree with your view on things.

After yesterday you wanted athletes to just shut up and dribble, prevent/forbid them from voicing their opinion as citizens, even though you don't even watch sports.
Report Foinavon September 13, 2020 3:22 PM BST
Apologies for the inaccuracy, a citizen of a vassal state of the Soviet Empire would have been more accurate perhaps. As a child you would have a different perception but good to know you didn't go hungry or without childcare. I visited a different vassal state of the said Empire prior to its break-up and while they had adequate food, it was basic with little variety or choice, no decent coffee and petrol rationing. Beer was rationed to two glasses if you bought a meal otherwise you had to have US dollars for supply from the elite shop. There was a black market for USD or GBP many times the official rate and risky to participate. OK, survivable but depressing.

The west really is terribly decadent and wasteful, isn't it?
Report Foinavon September 13, 2020 3:30 PM BST
It is but I wouldn't like to rely on an ancient soviet era car and not enough fuel to extinguish the red warning light after a fill up. Nor would I wish to live on cabbage, beetroot and potatoes evey day with a bit of sausage once or twice a week, healthy as it might be.

Please, the GDR had its very own vehicle with the Trabi. GDR engineered and manufactured! A testament of GDR ingenuity.

And we did have carrots! What's little known is that there were also oranges basically year-round. Terribly dry and disgusting oranges from Cuba, but oranges nonetheless. Edible oranges once a year during christmas season.

State propaganda was cool too. My parents like to tell the tale of how they once watched a GDR documentary about how miserably folks lived in the west (on benefits). Particularly how crappy their housing was. They just thought to themselves "yeah...we'd like that, and we both work...". It has to be said that they/we lived in a small-ish village then, with exactly one telephone btw. in the entire village. A telephone that you could only use to call into the neighbouring (slightly bigger) village. Which resulted in my mum calling her mum in the neighbouring village, who then called the ambulance when little edy had enough of chilling around in a tummy.

Needless to say, my parents weren't among the many who bemoaned the end of the GDR.

The Trabi was an icon. I've never ridden in one but have been in a Lada which was almost as smoky. My childhood at the end of the war wasn't much different and we only had an orange at Christmas. Things began to improve at the end of the 50s and progressively got better.
My reason for mentioning it was, as I alluded to on another thread was to wish it still existed as an advertisement for the system which many on the left especially the young, seem to aspire to.

They failed to implement it correctly.

Like all the others. Even Venezuela failed while having the benefit of hindsight from those that preceded it and the revenues from the world's largest oil reserves. Could there be a basic flaw with the philiosophy? I think we know the answer.
Report edy September 13, 2020 8:15 PM BST
The basic flaw in the philosophy is that humans are involved.
Report edy September 13, 2020 8:17 PM BST
When we are at the stage to really genetically alter humans, or reproduce without men so we can get rid of them, then we will be able to successfully implement socialism.

True

When we are at the stage to really genetically alter humans, or reproduce without men so we can get rid of them, then we will be able to successfully implement socialism.

I don't think so, women are human too.
Report Foinavon September 13, 2020 8:24 PM BST
When you have a population made up entirely of machines, you can do anything you like, we won't be in a position to care.
Report edy September 13, 2020 8:27 PM BST
Yeah, but women are vastly genetically superior. It's science.

Report Foinavon September 13, 2020 8:32 PM BST
Only a woman can be so illogical, unless it's a joke.
Report edy September 13, 2020 8:32 PM BST
Men have one thing going for them. We are gorgeous if we take care of ourselves. We are the beautiful gender. Women have an advantage at everything else really.
Report Foinavon September 13, 2020 8:34 PM BST
That's the opposite of reality.

I think it would be better to be invented, rather than to be born
Report edy September 13, 2020 8:36 PM BST
It's not the opposite of reality. Women, to look remotely acceptable, have to cover their faces under inches of makeup. They also get fat and ugly more easily. Whereas men get muscles more easily and don't need makeup (the very few ugly men can use nature's makeup - a beard)

It's not illogical either, it's science. Two X chromosomes are better than X and a degenerated Y chromosome. Read up on it. Women are more resilient to severe illness, they live longer, they can survive more easily in tough conditions, they can multitask, they don't get lured into gambling as easily, they are smarter overall, they manage lives so much easier than men.
Report edy September 13, 2020 8:37 PM BST
They don't get silly things like colour blindness, red-green weakness etc etc.
Report edy September 13, 2020 8:40 PM BST
They make for far better politicians. Men get led on by emotions and fury too easily. Ranting and angry all the time. Or desperate to be entertaining all the time.

Whereas people like Merkel and Thatcher were cool as cucumbers. Factual, always business-like.
Report Foinavon September 13, 2020 8:42 PM BST
All life is here to reproduce, it's the definition of life. Men can have many more offspring and have a longer reproductive life than women. They are also more disposable so useful for other things like hunting and fighting wars.
