Andrea Leadsom was immense in the debates, should be a shoe-in

but in reality she's got no chance.

I suppose the only saving grace is that none of the 5 Tory candidates went to Eton...

I can't have Fox on any grounds; even though he was on the leave side, he's a weasel. If he gets the gig, we're screwed.
Leadsom was excellent in the debates, but this may come too soon.
Similar story for Crabb (too soon) & he looked a bit like a rabbit in the headlights when making cabinet after IDS's walkout.
Gove is a strange one - I think he has the intellect, but he just reminds me of a speccy prefect type. He's also been tainted by the Boris shenanigans and the fact he clearly stated he wouldn't run for PM. I know things change, but it was a fairly definitive statement and we don't need another liar before we get started.

So, Teresa May almost by default. Even Alan Johnson gave her credit tonight on This Week for managing 6 years in the Home Office. Given that free movement is such a deal-breaker, she should know more than anyone the complexities that are going to emerge and what could/should work for us. I have my reservations, but there's not many Home Secretaries who've taken on the Police Federation like she has. Ultimately, she could bring some party/country unity and as I've said before, she could be an asset when dealing with Merkel, especially as she's already had numerous dealings with Brussels. I know she was a Remainer, but Leave won the vote and there has to be some kind of olive branch to go forward with, rather than an insistence on a Leave PM. We need someone who can crack on and get this challenging job done, not some publicity-hungry, newbie trying to make a name for themselves.

As for Labour - I honestly don't have a clue and I don't think they do either. They were on the road to ruin as soon as John Smith sadly passed away and Bliar hijacked the Labour Party for his own purposes. It always made me laugh to think that Mandelson was MP for Hartlepool and Bliar for Sedgefield. Did those constituents really believe those 2 muppets were ever going to represent their views and needs? Blair is now a multi-millionaire and Mandelson's ability to keep bouncing back, scandal after scandal, had to be seen to be believed. Rotten to the core both of them. We're moving into dangerous territory now without a strong, viable opposition, but I honestly think Labour may never recover from this, unless their Westminster elite wing depart to form a another New New Labour.

I think whichever one of Leadsom or Crabb gets into the last two with May will win it.

Labour? Who knows? Who cares. It'll be another Corbynite and we'll repeat in 6 months.

andrea leadsom..imo is a fine lady, i think she has what it takes, i pray the tories dont vote for her as i fear even more for labour if she leads..the tories are in a mess also..with back stabbing and bitter infighting that will not go anyway..but she looks capable and trustworthy..any of the others will do for me as they all have weakpoints ...as a honest man i say it as i see it..

i hope andy burnham stands ..if not andy..smith looks the one for the plp ..but angela is not out of it
but i will say smith looks the more likely at this point

I think May is a shoe-in...Gove will be rewarded with Minister in charge of Brexit for
his backstabbing of Bojo.
Labour what a sorry mess.No surprise if it splits with looney left corbynites on one side
and Yvette Cooper/Andy Burnham centre/righters on the other.
