Sports Direct and Newcastle owner supports UKIP and the only way for him is "out of Europe."
What's in it for Mike? A Mike Ashley friendly bunch are waiting in the wings to usher in a low-regulation, low-wage, low-tax, offshore hedge-fund dream. In the event of Vote Leave winning, these are the people who will be running your country and here's what they say about workers rights specifically:
Boris Johnson : "The weight of employment regulation is now back-breaking: the collective redundancies directive, the atypical workers directive, the working time directive and a thousand more."
Michael Gove: For reducing "excessive" social and employment regulation.
Pritti Patel : " If we could just halve the burden of social and employment legislation we could deliver a £4.3 billion boost to our economy and 60,000 new jobs."
Iain Duncan Smith : On the Working Time Directive: "I believe it is right to have it, but the question is how flexible how are about the way it is operated." (I think we can all read the subtext of that statement. Green light for Mr Ashley.)

He could hardly treat his workers any worse.
Apart from being obnoxious he seems muddled,he should be a remainer as its the EU is providing him with the unlimited supply of cheap labour. If Britain were to leave the EU the first consequence would be a rise in the wages of the unskilled,that would be a boost for the economy. One thing about low paid Brits is they don't send it home in remittances,they spend it in the local economy. In fairness the remain side have acknowledged that lower wages will rise in the short term. Why do you think all those greedy unscrupulous businessmen are remainers. |

Mike Ashley has a dream scenario right now. AN OVER SUPPLY OF LABOUR - A CONVEYOR BELT OF EU LABOUR.
The owners have never had it so good. HIRE - FIRE - TERRORISE. Do you really think workers can have it any worse than right now? Out of the EU, manage that over-supply, increase the wages of the UK workers, give them the hours they need to keep their heads comfortably above their need threshold. Out of the EU there will be legislation of workers rights. We will demand them. You are running scared of British politicians UB. That is cowardness in my book UB. |

Anyone with concerns over employment rights should be scared of the British politicians listed above, for reasons lifted above. ZenMaster asks if things could be worse? The answer is much worse. Scrap legislation and a race to the bottom ensues, and Mike Ashley's practises become the "new normal" even as he dives lower to compete with Chinese manufacturers. France does not have Sports Direct labour standards, Apple workers have much worse.

Mike Ashley obviously has a disdain for bureaucracy and authority.
Having an higher layer of bureaucracy from a regulatory obsessed EU will not sit well with the man. Is it just a coincidence that his workers rights became on issue as over-supply swelled? Of course not, because as we know over-supply creates an environment for abuse. |

The environment is set by over - supply. Sports Direct management can treat workers so badly because the agencies have their books flooded with potential workers. Control the supply and respect for the workers enters the market. |
