He'll be back as leader after September, you can bank on that.
Report Dr Crippen May 8, 2015 2:19 PM BST
What promise will he have broken if he does?
Report Dotchinite May 8, 2015 2:23 PM BST
Indeed he will have a fresh mandate from his party if he decides to stand again. I dont see what the issue is.
Report paddletoe May 8, 2015 2:26 PM BST
Surely he will have lied to the voters as he will have stood on a platform of a broken promise. And you all thought he was somehow different to the rest of them.
Taking a summer holiday is not stepping down.
Report Dr Crippen May 8, 2015 2:28 PM BST
He said he'd resign and he has.

He didn't say he'd never lead them again.
Report Dr Crippen May 8, 2015 2:29 PM BST
He's got to stand for election and be accepted.

He can't just walk straight back in to the job.
Report paddletoe May 8, 2015 2:30 PM BST
True but no one expected his resignation to mean having a nice summer holiday and then carrying on as normal. His point of difference was that he was a man of his word and different to the rest of them.

Nice to see a politician with principles for a change.
Report paddletoe May 8, 2015 2:32 PM BST
A straight talker who at the first opportunity uses deceptive words. That's what I meant.

You cant have a welcome home party for somewhere who has never been away.

UKIP is far more than the sum of this one part. Farage shoud take a couple of years away to get his health sorted before contemplatimg returning to front line politics. For sure he's a great asset but a party with this groundswell needs to branch out.
Report wildmanfromborneo May 8, 2015 3:29 PM BST
I can't agree,Farage is UKIP they will fracture without him.

Carswell would take the party in a different direction as would Suzanne Evans.

Farage is jaded and needs a break.
Report pete_de May 8, 2015 3:55 PM BST
yes get him back
Report Dotchinite May 8, 2015 3:56 PM BST
Al Murray looks like a good replacement.
Report Ski-Wiz May 8, 2015 5:06 PM BST
Personally a female might be a good idea......did wonders for SNP after Alex stood down.

Instead of beer....it will be wineLaughLaugh

Farage look burnt out at the start of the election. He did very well to get 3,881,129 votes.
Report alun2005 May 8, 2015 6:44 PM BST
John Major famously stood down as Leader of the Conservative Party in 1995 WHILST Prime Minister.  He was re-elected very quickly when "the B*st*rds" (as they were known in political circles) failed to come up with anyone better in Redwood.

There certainly shouldn't be any reason why Farage shouldn't reapply for the job, BUT he clearly needs break.

Maybe there is a forumite with an Italian holiday home who would let him stay on bed and breakfast terms for say, 4 months?
Report A.H HUNTER esq. May 8, 2015 6:50 PM BST
Hell yes .

He has done a fantastic job in representing the English working classes and has now established UKip as a serious political party.

We need an honest referendum now on EU membership.
Report paddletoe May 8, 2015 7:00 PM BST
But did he not try and win votes on the basis of his honesty and integrity which he backed up by saying he would resign if he lost. Most people would not consider resigning, having a holiday and reapplying for the same position as meaning a resignation.
First time one of the things he said he would do have been put to the test and he has come out the wrong side of a personal promise he made to the people he was hoping to represent.
Report A.H HUNTER esq. May 8, 2015 7:15 PM BST
He has resigned, that was the promise,if the party and members invite him back he will have to make his decision. They are able to refuse to accept his resignation and he can continue in good faith.
Report subversion May 8, 2015 7:20 PM BST
yeah Farage did a great job, but he also kept his promise. an honourable move.
